I drove to the school. The lot was empty but I knew there would be someone around. I walked to the back of the building and sure enough I found an entourage of kids clad in black. They smelled dank. I joined their circle and locked eyes with Vic. He looked at me apathetically and handed me a fresh roll. I took the blunt and greedily flicked my lighter.

I inhaled the sweet smoke and my body eased. I sank back against the brick wall. Vic looked at me.

"You look rough. What happ-"

I shut him up with a drag.

"Don't talk, just toke."

He pressed his lips together, the way he always does when he still has more to say. I didn't care for what he did have to say really. I sat there, getting high as the thin clouds in the dusky sky. The silence that surrounded us was just as loud as a million men talking. it made no sense and I felt crazy, My mind didn't know how to function. It just kept revolving around one thing.
