I set my books down, and waited for him to arrive. He trudged in right before the bell. He sat down next to me, dropping his bag on the floor. I turned to him.

"Good morning Austin."

He gave me a forced smile.

"Morning."

"How was your night."

"Fine"

He said flatly.

"I thought you said we would be friends. This isn't how friends talk."

He sighed.

"This is hard for me too Oliver."

I opened my notebook.

"Well I guess since you've made this bed you have to lie in it."

He frowned.

"That's very Kellin of you to say."

My skin bristled.

"Did you not think he wouldn't text me to tell me about your guys's little slumber party last night?"

I swallowed hard.

"I needed someone."

He looked at me, eyes dark.

"So you go to him? If you would've called me I would've come."

"And then what?"

I whispered angrily.

"You could comfort me from across the room? You're the one who said that you didn't want to tarnish me."

He pursed his lips.

"I miss you. Ok I fucking miss you every day, but since I've stayed away nothing has happened to you."

I sighed. He was right.

"I don't know how I'm able to stay away"

"I guess I don't either."
