The smell of cinnamon woke me up. I followed the smell into the kitchen. My mom was standing at the stove, flipping pancakes and scrambling eggs. I gave her a kiss on her cheek.

"Good morning."

I picked up Brandie and rubbed her velvety ears. The house was neat, and everything smelled like lemon pledge.

"Clean the house mom?"

She looked at me over her shoulder

"Oh, I forgot to tell you, we're having a little dinner party."

"A party?"

She laughed softly.

"OK well maybe not a party, but a little get together."

She dished out the food onto plates. She laid them on the table.

"Put Brandie down and come eat."

I set her down on the couch and she sat there looking at me, panting. I gave her little head a pat. I pulled out my chair and sat down. I took a bite and looked around. She had taken then shells I'd picked up and laid them along the window sill to dry. I smiled. There was a knock on the door and she looked up. She smiled and stood, walking to the door. In came a very tall woman. She was holding a a large paper wrapped bouquet and bags from whole foods. She set down the bags and hugged my mom.

"Austin, this is Georgia."

She held out her hand. She had perfectly manicured red nails. I shook her hand.

"Hi, nice to meet you."

"You as well."

She had white blond hair and gigantic blue eyes. Her teeth were as white as the marble counter tops.

"How are you Katie?"

She said unwrapping the flowers.

"Oh better now that my Austin is here."

She ruffled my hair.

"I just made breakfast would you like some?"

She held up her hand.

"No thanks dear, I'm on that juice cleanse still."

My mom smiled at her.

"Oh your will power is so much stronger than mine."

Georgia went to the fridge and unloaded the bags.

"What were you thinking for tonight?"

My mom asked her.

"I was thinking baby spinach salad with cucumber ranch, and Shrimp gumbo with wild rice."

My mom came and sat back down, eating her breakfast.

"Georgia is my house keeper. She's also one of my closest friends. She's the one who convinced me to move out here after your father and I divorced."

"It only took her a year to listen to me."

She said, coming to sit next to me. The dogs ran up to her, wiggling. She patted their heads.

"How do you two know each other?"

They looked at each other.

"Well funny story."

Georgia leaned back in her chair.

"My husband is actually the beneficiary of your father's industry. I met your mother at the company Christmas gala. The rest is history."
