CHAPTER SIXTY-SIX
'explosion vs pause'

Fate really had something big planned if it rained during any fight you had with Katsuki.

If you looked back, there was rain when you, Shoto and Katsuki had that argument when Katsuro was still around. There was another when Katsuki thought that Katsuro was just miscalculation in his road to being a hero before you both discovered his quirk. And you were pretty sure it started to rain outside when you were in hospital with your dad.

Rain is great. It was supposed to be give and mean life.

For you, it always brought something that reminded you that you were dying inside.

Nothing good ever came it.

He began to walk in a circling direction, you doing the same but away from him. He tossed his grenade gauntlets onto the ground and cracked his knuckles.

"You're going to go full out, you hear me?"

Somehow, miraculously, his sweat was still present, not being washed away by the water falling from the sky. They were still sparking and crackling under his palm.

You knew it was from his training. Over the years, he probably could have managed to tweak his quirk, improving it, creating new moves and etcetera.

However you... you needed to undergo an experiment to insert multiple chips in your body to control the drawbacks better. You didn't get the chance to improve over the years and if that whole thing with the President didn't happen, you would still only be capped during training to use instead of having as much time as you did now.

It made you jealous.

It made you feel like you were cheating on the mundane process of living with the gift people called quirks. It even made you sick.
Every morning and after you had a short sleep, vile flavours arose from your empty stomach and would result inside a bucket or toilet bowl.

It made you feel absolutely disgusting.

You didn't feel like your quirk was your own anymore.

Obviously, you wanted to become stronger. You wanted to become a hero and that developing Pause was the only way to go. It felt forced, tested and being away from the H.P.S.C. made you realise even more how much you were being used as a weapon.

From looking at Katsuki's desperation to fight and try to get it out of your chest, you were sworn by the contract to not tell anyone about what they had planned for you when you go back to the city.

You wanted Katsuki to see that.
To infer the reason why you left without an explanation.
To see that you were hurting without actually telling him so you weren't breaking the rules.
So that they wouldn't bring you back to the lab anymore.
So that he'd see the chance and protect you when you can't protect yourself.

You winced at the tingling pain under your eyes, skin and body trembling as the familiar feeling of quirk activation hit you and every single nerve in your being.

The rain kept hitting the ocean and the thunder echoed in the background, muting the sound of your beating heart pounding with adrenaline.
