A long time ago, in a small kingdom on an island in the center of the ocean, a vain and very convinced prince lived. Van was always loved by everyone and everyone commented on how handsome and elegant he was. The girls in the kingdom really wanted to spend time with him to try to hook his heart, but...
The young prince, besides being extremely vain, could not love anyone but himself. He had dated many girls before, but he had never really loved any of them. His parents, the king and the queen, were concerned about their son, but found no solution to the problem.
One day, rumors about the prince's attitudes reached the ears of the mermaids that protected the island and his unworthy attitudes infuriated the mermaid queen. As punishment, she sent one of her most beautiful daughters to bewitch the prince and make him feel in his skin what it was like to be rejected by someone you loved.
Haruka dressed in powerful, ancient magic and was sent ashore on a day when Prince Van was riding close to the beach. The young mermaid was walking along the beach and was asking for help, saying she was the victim of a shipwreck. Van immediately decided to help her, delighted by her beauty.
“Are you lost, my angel?” Van showed the girl his most flirtatious smile. Haruka smiled gently and nodded. “I was a victim of a shipwreck.” And she looked away at the sea with an air of sadness. Van immediately put his arm around her shoulders, offering his cloak as protection.
“Come with me. I am the prince of Paladia, the kingdom that is in the center of the island. I will be happy to house you in the castle.” The boy let the young woman get on his horse and they rode together back to the castle. There, Van explained how he had found the girl and the majesties were happy to receive her.
Haruka was grateful for the kindness and hospitality. After the banquet served at lunch, she went to the room assigned to her to take a shower and change into new clothes. Van made sure to present her with the most beautiful and expensive clothes. He gave her luxurious shoes and beautiful jewelry, but although the girl accepted the gifts she did not seem to yield to his charms.
“Shall we have afternoon tea together, my angel?” Van asked her after three attempts to ask her out. “I don't like tea very much. Thanks.” Haruka replied with a gentle smile and closed the door again on his face. The young prince was frustrated and did not understand the reasons that led the girl to reject him.
It had been a week since Haruka had been at the castle and did not accept the prince's invitations and flirtations. The young woman offered to help take care of the gardens, but was not allowed to work because they believed she was still weak from the accident. Van continued to fill her with gifts and Haruka was forced to start refusing them.
Until on the eighth day of stay at the castle, she finally accepted one of the boy's invitations. Van had asked her to ride with him to the beach. Haruka was longing for the sea, so she accepted the proposal. She knew that she could not enter the sea water or the magic would dissolve, but she could at least contemplate its waters.
“Are you enjoying the ride?” Van was anxious for the girl's reply. He was increasingly concerned with her health and well-being. He thought of her day and night. He even dreamed of the young woman. “Yeah.” Haruka replied briefly and returned to looking at the sea, feeling the sea air and the pleasant smell it brought. She was homesick for the ocean.
“Do you want to get in the water? We can...” But Haruka interrupted him with a frightened and desperate no. Then she tried to compensate and gently shook her head. “I'm afraid... still very afraid.” And the prince seemed to understand her feelings. He was really trying to win her heart. They had a pleasant walk where they talked as friends and had fun. Until...
