"If I give you this ring... You tell me which side that man went to?" She stared at a grumpy woman who was sitting on the top of a barrel with the face of few friends. The other analyzed the proposal and snatched the ring from her hand. "Over there." She jerked her chin at her. "At the Bunny's Lair." The princess thanked her and hurried to the place the woman had pointed out... She just had no idea that this place was a boarding house and a bar. She walked to the counter, reluctantly.
Many faces were watching her between men and women, but a pair caught her eye. One of the men had blue hair, so dark that it looked purple, and shrewd blue eyes. The other had gray hair and... One eye of each color. One was gray and the other was reddish. They looked like... Pirates. Would they be dangerous? What were they doing there besides drinking and talking? Planning a robbery? The plump lady behind the counter cleared her throat, catching her attention again. "What do you want here, young lady? The vacancies are all filled up for girls your age..." And looked her up and down.
The princess felt her face flush, but she kept her posture as she spoke to the woman. "I'm looking for a man..." And she gave her the description of the guy who had taken her purse. "I was told he would be here." The woman's posture remained the same, hunchbacked, but her hand rose to her chin, forming a pensive pose. "If you tell me where he is, I can give you these earrings." And she took the earrings from her ear, showing them on the counter.
The woman's eyes behind the counter glittered and she took the payment quickly. "He left now, it's right there in the side alley, you'd better hurry." The princess nodded and ran to the side entrance, out into the dank, dark alley where the man who stole her purse was crouched down, analyzing the contents of what he had stolen. She remembered the training of the knights she saw hidden and took a piece of iron on the floor, lifted it and when she was about to hit the thief, someone grabbed her from behind, making her scream.
