Bring in some complicated antagonist or lover.
We have talked about antagonists before but we never really got into it. Well, today, let talked about him or her.
Let's see. Hmmm... Where to start?
If you ask me, complications in the story bring a little edge to it. It brings chaos and order to the story at the same time. Some writers use the people close to our Heroine as the subject of complications or troubles.
We could also use her employer, whether she's a female boss or a male boss, just like the one in The Devil Wears Prada or Bridget Jones Diary. The way the author portrayed each character is so amazing. You, too, can write something like that.
In some Chicklit story I've read before, it was the Heroine's co-worker making it so difficult for her to do things that she needs to do. Most of the time, it is a female coworker who became the antagonist. She was envious of our heroine's capability to execute her office duties and/or jealous that the male boss is showing interest in our Heroine.
We can also try the male coworker, too. Sometimes, they were the complicated ones. I see it childish and hilarious at the same time if the would-be antagonist is a man. Imagine that.
We have the whole world of antagonists to choose from, just be aware that it may become overly clichè or over the top. Make it simple and relatable. Make it complicated but not exaggerated.
