I slowly move Tessa off my chest and gently replace me with a pillow. She clutches the pillow and gently stirs before she falls back asleep.

I know she'll realize I'm gone, neither one of us can stay too far apart from each other.

I slip on some sweatpants before I quietly leave the room and walk to my study, I sit at my desk and stare out my window. I long at the city, the lights from the buildings light up the night sky.
I look at my clock and see that it's 12 am, happy birthday to me. 21 years on this planet, fucking amazing.

All I want to do is have a beer and lay with my girl, she doesn't know it's my birthday and I want to keep it that way. The less people that know the better, and plus today is our 2 month anniversary and I wanna focus on that. Us being together is more important than my birthday, she'll probably be mad that I didn't tell her but in the end of the day I'll just fuck her and she'll forget all about it.

I just hate my birthday so much.

...

I can't believe she went on birth control, I know it's probably for the best because the last fucking thing I want is a child. I just hate how sick she got, I never want her to jeopardize her body because of me. I just hope she feels better in the morning, I don't like seeing her like this.

"Hardin?"

I turn and see Tessa standing in my office doorway, she yawns before she rubs her eyes.

"Why are you awake?" She asks.

"I just couldn't sleep, I'm fine."

She walks towards me and sits in my lap.

"What's on your mind?" She asks with curiosity.

"Nothing, just a bit stressed about my book release that's all."

"Can I help?"

"No baby, that's alright. Let's go back to bed."

I stand up and carry her back into the room, we get back in bed and return to the position we were before.

"Are you sure you're alright?"

"Yes."

"I love you." She whispers.

"I love you."

She falls back asleep quickly.

I just lay here until my thoughts tire me out and I eventually fall asleep.

...

I wake up to rustling sheets,  I slowly open my eyes and see Tessa sitting up. I yawn before I sit up.

"Tess?"

She smiles at me before she quickly tackles me and pin my arms to the bed, what a way to wake up?

"Someone is feeling better." I say with a smile.

"I feel much better."

I quickly flip us over and pin her to the bed.

"You're forgetting who's stronger Tessa."
