Hope is a cruel mistress
Teasing us with her fantasies
Egging us on with her dreams
She always wants exactly what we want
It is hope that keeps us alive
Clutching to its coattails like a child
Grinding on through another hard day
Soaring away on the bus with our eyes closed
If I could just win the lottery
If I could just get on a reality show
If I could just write a book
If I could just... achieve my dreams
Oh, how I hold on to hope
As my life is not as a want it to be
Because without hope there is no future
Yes, it is hope that keeps us alive
