Title: The Lodger

The lodger wastes time on his PC
Busy doing nothing in the living room
He doesn't see the many broken toys
The only child, alone, in the gloom

Mother's making noise in the kitchen
Moaning bitterly to herself as she cooks
Mourning how her life has turned out
When did she lose her looks?

No real father figure to speak of
No advice given, no life skills imparted
No trips to the park, no bounce on the knee
Why were you so guarded?

Physically present, emotionally absent
Closed, going about your business
Like living with a lodger who would occasionally beat you
The lodger keeps his distance
