Chapter 23 - Distractions

Thanks to the mall being so large and there being a lot to choose from, Kyra knew her pokémon would all find something they liked.

"Alright you lot, I want you to split off into pairs and stick with one another. Feel free to choose whatever you want within reason. Lucario, I want you to go with Eevee. Gligar, I want you to go with Gabite. Prinplup, I want you to go with Luxio. Make sure you stick in your pairs and don't get lost. Come and find me when you decide of what you want," Kyra explained, wanting to get some things for herself as well as letting her pokémon all get something.

Most of Kyra's pokémon went off to look for something to get, apart from Luxio and Prinplup. Luxio was cowering by Kyra's legs, not being brave enough to leave Kyra's side. Prinplup stayed by Luxio and tried to calm her down, but Luxio was too stressed.

"It's ok Luxio. Prinplup is here for you," Kyra said, kneeling down to be at Luxio's eye level.

Luxio had her eyes tightly shut, small spark of electricity coming out from her fur as she panicked.

"Hey Luxio, look at me and focus on my, everything will be ok. You know Prinplup well, he won't leave you. If it'll make you feel better, I can come with you two for a bit," Kyra offered.

Luxio opened her eyes and saw that Kyra was knelt before her. She stopped sending out the small sparks just in case she shocked Kyra. "Can you stay with is for a little bit please? I don't want to leave you even if I am with Prinplup right now," she asked.

"That's fine, you two can stay with me for a bit. I'm treating you guys, so I felt like I should treat myself as well, there's a few things I want to buy that I haven't had in ages," Kyra replied, letting Luxio and Prinplup stay with her until they were ready to go off by themselves.

Prinplup gently stroked Luxio's head, "You're doing really well Luxio, just focus on me and Kyra, everything will be ok. We'll be here for you," he encouraged, frequently reminding Luxio that she was doing well in such a crowded space.

First of all, the group headed to the supermarket to grab some more food, they were by no means running out, but they still felt like having some variety in what they ate. Kyra had been craving her favourite brand of chocolate for a few days now, and the chocolate she could get here was by far her favourite. She grabbed a few bars, enough for herself and some spares, not that she had any intentions of sharing with Nate or Willow, they could buy their own if they wanted it.

After paying, Luxio told Kyra she felt ready to go off with Prinplup and look for something, Kyra praised Luxio on her confidence and said that she would make sure she was outside as much as possible should Luxio need her.

Kyra, Nate, and Willow decided to have a quick drink whilst they waited for Kyra's pokémon to figure out what they wanted, catching up with one another in the process.

"Lucario seemed really down earlier, is everything alright?" Nate asked, concerned for Lucario's unnaturally sad nature.

"It's a long story. When we were walking to Veilstone, she sensed a strong Lucario and got curious. When we went over, we met the Gym Leader, Maylene, and her Lucario who knows Aura Sphere. Lucario tried to form an Aura Sphere herself, but it wasn't too successful, and she's been off ever since. Barry's also in town and Lucario didn't take to kindly to him, nor did it help that he called her weak for not being able to form an Aura Sphere. That's why I'm letting all my pokémon choose something, that way Lucario won't feel she is taking advantage of me, it means Gabite gets something shiny, and it'll hopefully help Luxio with her confidence too," Kyra explained, she too worried about Lucario.

Not long after, Gabite and Gligar came over to Kyra, practically dragging her out of her seat and to the shop they had found with what they wanted. Gabite had found himself a choice of multiple shiny gems which he hoped Kyra would get for him, whilst Gligar had caught eye of a Razor Fang she would need to evolve.
