Crasher Wake, the Pastoria City Gym Leader, was very much in lower spirits than usual. There was something about yesterday that had knocked his confidence, there had been quite a few challengers, but one stood out much more than the rest. Ambipom, Jolteon, and Floatzel. A three to nil loss.
If there had been even a three to one loss, Wake wouldn't have been so disheartened. But the fact it had been so easy for the challenger to earn his fifth Gym Badge made things worse.
As much as Wake was glad to see challengers hadn't heard of his loss yesterday, he didn't know if he could take anymore easy wins on the challengers part. It was clear that one of the three challengers were slightly worried about going into the battle, maybe he did stand a chance after all.
"I take it you three are here to challengers the Pastoria Gym," Wake said, welcoming the three challengers to the Gym.
Kyra, Nate, and Willow thanked Wake for letting them have their Gym Battle. Like most of the Gyms they had taken on beforehand, it was three on three Single Battles with only the challenger being allowed substitutions.
Kyra had Lucario stay with Nate and Willow before going over to start the Gym Battle. Eevee stayed sat on Kyra's shoulder and was looking forward to finally getting into battling in a Gym.
"Alright Eevee, I want to start off battling with you ok?" Kyra said, letting Eevee start off the battle.
Eevee nodded and jumped down onto one of the floating platforms. The sudden bobbing of the platform on the water scared Eevee slightly and she was worried about how she would keep her balance.
"It's alright Eevee, you're ok. The platforms will move slightly, but there's no need to panic, they won't fall under the water with you on it," Kyra reassured, letting Eevee know she'd be ok.
Eevee looked back towards Kyra and nodded, regaining her balance and readying herself to battle.
Wake could see that Kyra's confidence was much stronger now she was ready to battle. Maybe battling her wouldn't be as easy as he originally thought.
"Gyarados, come on out," Wake said, sending out his Gyarados as his lead.
As Gyarados landed in the water, Eevee cowered away slightly on the floating platform, whimpering at how strong the opponent before her was.
"That's Gyarados' Intimidate, no wonder Eevee's so nervous," Kyra thought. She knew she had to try and calm Eevee down and fast. "It's alright Eevee, I'll still care about you no matter what the outcome of this battle is, you'll still be my partner. Be brave and work with me, earn yourself your first Gym victory," she said, assuring Eevee that she would be ok.
Eevee nodded and locked eye contact with Gyarados, forgetting how she had been off put by the battle before.
"Alright Gyarados, let's start this battle shall we? Get under the water and use Dragon Rage," Wake called.
Gyarados dove under the water and went deep down so Eevee couldn't see where he had gone to. Eevee began to worry slightly, she looked back towards Kyra and agreed to trust her word when it came.
Kyra could predict how long it would take to charge and fire the Dragon Rage, she had to call for Eevee to jump and retaliate at the right moment to avoid getting hit.
"Now Eevee. Jump up and use Swift," Kyra said, hoping her plan would work.
Eevee jumped as Kyra said, just as the Dragon Rage hit the floating platform. She sent the numerous glowing stars down towards the pool where Gyarados was before landing on another platform.
