Chapter 45 - Left in the Dark

Kyra gave her pokémon to Nurse Joy so they could be checked over, leaving Lucario and Eevee with her too so she had some alone time to talk to Victoria and Sonia.

Out of the two, Kyra guessed that talking to Sonia first would be more successful. Yes, they had a lot to catch up since Sonia had been busy lately, but she had messaged Kyra a couple of days ago to say she's be up for a catch-up call today.

Kyra keyed in the number Sonia had told her to use and waited patiently for her aunt to pick up, not having to wait too long.

"Hey Little Niece, I was expecting you to call sooner or later. Magnolia is out right now, so luckily we have quite a bit of time to chat, or at least I hope we do. So, how's the journey going? Do you have six pokémon yet?" Sonia gretted, clearly excited to see Kyra again.

Kyra smiled at how excited Sonia was, she shared the same excitement and answered Sonia's questions in brief so she could be caught up.

"Not bad, having six pokémon already I mean. Give me just a sec, I have someone else who wants go say hi," Sonia replied, disappearing from the camera's view for a few seconds.

The pokémon Sonia was now holding pawed at the screen as if she were trying to get to Kyra, making Kyra laugh. "Aww, hey Yamps. You remember me then," Kyra said, glad to see Sonia's Yamper was doing well.

Yamper barked in response to Kyra, naturally Sonia thought this was Yamper wanting cuddles since she was always wanting them.

"It's ok Yamps, I've give you cuddles once I've finished talking to Kyra," Sonia said, putting Yamps back down so she could get back to talking to Kyra.

Kyra on the other hand had understood Yamper's bark to ask when she was coming to Galar to see her. As much as Kyra wanted to go to Galar, she didn't want to risk another argument with Magnolia causing her to stop her journey through Galar short.

"Give Yamps extra cuddles from me," Kyra replied.

Sonia nodded, "Will do, she'll appreciate them I'll tell you that much. Anyway, you're doing the fiddle thing, ask away," she said, picking up on Kyra fiddling with her scarf.

"I was wondering if you knew anything about our family's pasts on either side. Does the name Akari seem familiar in any way?" Kyra asked.

Sonia thought for a moment, Akari did seem like a familiar name, but she couldn't quite put her finger on why. "I think she was an ancestor of Victoria's, but I could be wrong on that. There wasn't any Akari's on my side, not that I remember Bro talking about that is. Although I never really was interested in Kalos Royalty, so I could have just missed it," she explained, hoping to have been of some help.

Kyra now had even more questions than before, now wondering whether her father was the heir to Kalos' reign...if Kalos had a reign anymore. "Kalos Royalty? Is your side of the family the rightful rulers of Kalos?" she asked, planning to ask Victoria about Akari later.

"If the Kalos was a monarchy, then yes. But since the reign ended because of the Kalos War 3,000 years ago, there are no rulers in the royal sense. This was much more Bro's speciality," Sonia replied, sighing at the fact she hadn't had any communication with her brother was the best part of ten years now. "Speaking of, have you heard from him lately? Did starting your journey peak his interest in coming back to the family?" she asked.

Kyra shook her head, "Still nothing from him. I just wish I remembered more about him than the fact I was close to him, maybe he'd be able to help answer some of my questions," she sighed.

"All I know is that he's not in Galar, Magnolia would have found out by now and probably have a restraining order filed against him knowing her. He's clearly not in Sinnoh since he would have come to check on you after what's happened, or at least you would have found some sort of trace of him. My best guess would be Kalos since he's always wanted to go there, but I don't want to get either of our hopes up," Sonia explained, she too wishing that her brother would get back with the family and things could go back to normal.
