Kyra knew that she now had the advantage. Gliscor and Garchomp were both part Ground Type, and they could hopefully outmanouever any attacks with their speed.
Volkner sent out his Raichu and Kyra let Gliscor out. The two pokémon glared at one another, neither one wanting to let up the other win.
"Alright Gliscor, we need to wait this one out. Keep an eye on Raichu," Kyra said, not wanting to attack right away.
Volkner wasn't surprised by Kyra's caution, but this time it was just what he needed. If Kyra panicked here, Raichu would be able to get in an easy hit, something Volkner was reliant on happening.
"Raichu, use Thunder Wave," Volkner called.
Kyra had Gliscor fly up to avoid the attack, she didn't want to run the risk of Gliscor being paralysed. That however had been a mistake and exactly what Volkner had wanted.
"Now Raichu, use Signal Beam," Volkner called, now very much on the aggressive side of the battle.
Raichu used his long tail like a spring to jump above Gliscor, allowing himself to land a powerful Signal Beam from close range. Gliscor had been hit hard, but she managed to regain control just before she hit the ground thanks to Aerial Ace.
Now back in her comfort zone, Gliscor had the advantage, Raichu on the other hand was far from confident. Since Gliscor had the high ground again and shown how quick she was, she could very easily attack from above or closer to the ground. Volkner knew there was only one move he could rely on now, and even then it would be a risky call.
Kyra knew that calling for Earthquake would most likely result in another Signal Beam hit, she had to wait for Gliscor to be closer to the ground so she could get the attack off quickly. For now, X-Scissor and Night Slash were her best bets. If Gliscor could pull off both in quick succession, this battle was a good as won.
"Alright Gliscor, use X-Scissor, follow up with Night Slash if you can," Kyra called, taking her chances.
Gliscor readied her claws and flew towards Raichu to attack. Depending on what Raichu did would determine whether or not Gliscor went for a follow up of Night Slash.
To Kyra's dismay however, Gliscor had flown the slightest bit too low and had clipped the ground with her tail. Gliscor had panicked and as a result been distracted from landing X-Scissor.
Volkner finally had an opening.
"Raichu, use Focus Blast!"
Raichu readied his attack and sent it towards Gliscor, hitting her once again since she wasn't expecting it. Gliscor had clearly taken a lot of damage, even though both attacks that had hit her had been resisted, Raichu had a much higher Special Attack than Kyra originally expected.
"It's alright Gliscor, return for now, you battled well," Kyra praised, returning Gliscor to her pokéball and letting her rest.
If one thing worried Kyra about Gliscor, it was her clumsiness. Ever since a Gligar, she had struggled to keep her balance sometimes and didn't have as good reflexes as some other of her species. Kyra didn't hold it against her since it was far from her fault, but it still worried her any time there was a chance of Gliscor getting hurt.
Kyra let Garchomp out, she could tell that Lucario was more worried about Glaceon than battling right now and knew Garchomp had been looking forward to battling again. Garchomp nodded as his trainer called for Sandstorm, their usual first turn set up.
Volkner was somewhat annoyed by the Sandstorm, he guessed that Garchomp's ability was Sand Veil, making this battle even more difficult. Raichu was beginning to tire out, Volkner didn't want to switch again and decided against sending his final pokémon out.
