The Sunnyshore City Gym wasn't too far away from the pokémon centre, giving Kyra plenty of time to try and think of a plan for taking on Volkner. Kyra had a vague plan by the time she headed to the Gym with Nate and Willow, but that would completely depend on just how fast Electivire was.
Volkner was awaiting Kyra's arrival on the battle field, eventhough he didn't seem it, he was quite looking forward to battling Kyra. He had his strategy fully planned out, not that he felt he needed more than just Electevire.
"So, you actually came. I'm impressed," Volkner said.
"Of course. I don't turn down a challenge when I'm given one. Let's get this battle underway shall we? Afterall, you want to see my technique don't you?" Kyra replied, knowing who she would let battle first.
Volkner nodded and let his Electevire out as Lucario walked onto the field to face him. Out of four pokémon Volkner planned on using, Lucario's highest chance of winning was against Electivire.
In terms of size, Electivire towered over Lucario, but Lucario wasn't worried since she would be able to outmanouever Electivire's size with her speed.
"Let's get this rolling. Use Dragon Pulse," Kyra called, playing it safe and staying out of range of a direct attack for now.
The two entities Lucario formed merged once more and darted across the field towards Electivire. Dragon Pulse seemed much more power this time, much to Kyra's pleasant surprise.
"Dodge it, then use Iron Tail," Volkner called, hoping to lure Kyra into a false sense of security.
Electivire nodded and jumped up to avoid the Dragon Pulse, the height from Iron Tail worried Kyra and she knew that it was best to call Lucario away rather than to counter.
Lucario however had different ideas. She wanted to use Metal Claw and try to overpower Electivire. After hearing how Volkner clearly didn't think much of Kyra yesterday, she wanted to prove that Kyra was indeed a good trainer.
"Alright, we'll just counter that. Use Metal Claw," Kyra said, letting Lucario have her way.
The two Steel Type attacks clashed, Lucario holding her own well against her opponent. With her paws being in so close, it set up perfectly for her next move, giving her the opportunity to land a super effective hit earlier than originally planned.
"Good, now use Bone Rush," Kyra added, she too had her Staff ready and was ready to follow with their normal strategy.
The attack formed between Lucario's paws and Electivire was clearly worried. He had nothing to push off of since Bone Rush was now in the way, if he tried to use the floor, Lucario would just take advantage of the time she had to strike.
"It's fine Electivire, let yourself get hit," Volkner said calmly, he knew Electivire's concerns were.
Lucario use Bone Rush to fling Electivire away, slightly surprised by how easy it was considering Electivire was the much bigger and heavier pokémon. But she knew that she couldn't let herself get over confident, otherwise the battle would be as good as over.
"Keep with Bone Rush for now, we need to see what Electivire will do next," Kyra said, knowing that gauging Electivire's movements was essential.
Electivire managed to get to his feet and he faced Lucario once more. It was clear to see that Bone Rush had dealt a lot of damage in just one hit. Lucario was much better trained than Volkner originally anticipated.
"The only terms of the battle were the ones set yesterday, I need to switch Electivire out here, there's no way he can handle Lucario's technique. If I can get Kyra to use Lucario again before Electivire comes back out, then I stand a chance," Volkner thought to himself, relieved that he hadn't set up a no substitutions rule.
