Kyra knew that calling for Aura Sphere now was too much of a risk, if Lucario panicked, she would lose confidence and no longer be able to form one. For now, the two had to act on the defensive, gauging what Maylene and her Lucario would do.
Maylene and her Lucario felt connected as usual when they battled. Both of them knew they had to put the pressure onto Kyra and her Lucario in order to get a worthy battle, something they were willing to do.
"Lucario, start off with Force Palm," Maylene called, curious to see how Kyra and her Lucario's would react.
Maylene's Lucario ran in and prepared a Force Palm, he was more than ready to take on Kyra's Lucario.
"Let's counter with our own. Use Force Palm," Kyra said, countering move for move would give away as little as possible.
Kyra's Lucario prepared a Force Palm of her own and used it counter her opponent's Force Palm.
The two Lucario's hits collided and both stayed strong in the centre of the field. Neither Lucario was going to let the other win easily.
Kyra noticed that her Lucario was struggling to stay strong against Maylene's Lucario's power. Her paws were beginning to slip as she lost her grip on the floor.
"Maylene's Lucario has the upper hand, fall back," Kyra said, knowing that this was a move Lucario couldn't counter.
Lucario nodded and jumped back, ducking down so she could avoid the momentum of Maylene's Lucario's attack.
Maylene's Lucario jumped back over to be stood in front of her trainer again as Kyra's Lucario stood up, both of them locking eyes again.
"Alright Lucario, use Metal Claw," Kyra called, hoping that making the first move would give them the advantage.
Maylene knew exactly what she would call for in return, "We'll counter that, use Metal Claw Lucario," she called, again calling for the same move as Kyra had done.
As Kyra's Lucario ran in and tried to land her attack, she was stopped by Maylene's Lucario once again. Kyra's Lucario just couldn't stand up to the power of Maylene's Lucario.
Despite being determined to defeat Maylene's Lucario, Kyra's Lucario knew how to recognise a loss when she saw it. But as she tried to jump away, Maylene's Lucario landed a Metal Claw from below, in turn flinging her over towards Kyra.
Kyra's Lucario acted instinctively and formed a Bone Rush to prevent as much injury as possible, only just managing to stop herself before hitting Kyra. She looked back towards her trainer, picking up on just how worried she looked.
"This isn't good, Maylene's Lucario is too strong. Even though we're calling for the same moves, we're no match to her strength. There must be something we're missing," Kyra thought, wracking her brain to figure out at least something that would help.
Then it clicked. Maylene used the same attacking motions as her pokémon.
Kyra got her Staff from her bag and held it like how Lucario was now holding Bone Rush. Lucario was surprised by what her trainer was doing, but was willing to listen to her plan anyway.
"Maylene copies how her pokémon attack. I only just noticed it, but maybe it'll help us too. I'm willing to try anything if you are," Kyra explained.
Lucario nodded, "It's worth a shot," she said, agreeing to follow Kyra's plan.
Maylene smiled, "So you worked it out. I was wondering how long it would take you two. But I wasn't expecting you to already have your own Bone Rush Kyra," she replied.
