Before Kyra was fully ready to take Maylene on, she thought through her best plan of taking Maylene down. The trio of Gabite, Gligar, and Lucario would be by no means easy to use, but still workable.

Maylene on the other hand knew she had to try and out smart Kyra's strategy, throwing her off was her only chance. Kyra was clearly a strong and skilled trainer who could change her strategy to fit her opponent, but Maylene had to bank on Kyra cracking under the pressure if she were to stand any chance at winning.

"Alright, a three on three with only the challenger being allowed substitutions, sound good? Although I like having a little twist, we both choose our first pokémon at the same time," Maylene asked.

Kyra nodded, "Fair enough, makes this battle all the more interesting," she said, grabbing the pokéball she intended on throwing out to battle first.

"Meditite, you're up," Maylene said.

"Gligar, let's go," Kyra said.

The two pokémon burst out from their pokéballs and landed on the field, more than ready for the Gym Battle ahead of them.

Maylene knew that Gligar could prove to be a difficult opponent, especially since Gligar was part Flying Type along with her Ground Typing. Taking Gligar down was something that would have to be done quickly and carefully.

"Alright Gligar, we need to scope out how Meditite acts. Use Faint Attack," Kyra called, knowing that getting in the first move was important.

Gligar jumped into the air and flew down towards Meditite, preparing her right claw to land the attack.

"Jump to your left Meditite," Maylene said, she had spotted Gligar preparing the attack and knew it would be difficult to change how she attacked now.

But that was exactly what Kyra had wanted Maylene to think.

As Meditite jumped to her left, Gligar swung her left claw and landed a successful hit with Faint Attack. The power of the attack took Meditite by surprise and flung her across the field.

Maylene gasped, "Are you ok Meditite, can you still battle?" she asked.

Meditite stood up and nodded, she wasn't going to give up yet.

"That's it Meditite, you can still go strong. Let's get some of that energy back shall we? Use Drain Punch," Maylene called, hoping her strategy wouldn't have crossed Kyra's mind yet.

Gligar looked back towards Kyra, taking Kyra's nod to jump into the air so she was out of the way of Drain Punch's range.

But this time Kyra was the one to fall into Maylene's trap.

Meditite jumped up and managed to land a successful hit with Drain Punch. This time she was the one to take Gligar by surprise and she fell towards the floor.

"Gligar, use Aerial Ace and circle back round so you don't hit the floor," Kyra called, knowing she had to give Gligar a call quickly.

Gligar heard Kyra's call and she tried followed the instructions given to her. However, he couldn't pull up in time before colliding with the floor.

"Gligar, are you alright?" Kyra asked, worried that Gligar had fallen from quite a hight and had hit the floor hard enough as it was.

Gligar began trying to get to her feet, but she couldn't manage it. "It is such a bother being this clumsy. Forgive me dear Kyra, I seem to be struggling to stand," she apologised, giving up completely.

"Looks like Gligar's having a bit of trouble, this is a perfect time to set up. Use Meditate," Maylene said, knowing that if Meditite could get well set up with Meditate, this battle would be an easy win.
