Chapter 46: Solo but not Solo

My team had been sent on a mission, Naruto and Sakura met the two new guys. I, on the other hand, had a mission, no idea what it is. I was getting ready to leave. "Hey Big sis. Shizune said to go to Hokage tower before you leave. You need to get something from there I think! Also can I come with you" I zipped up my jacket. "Alright you can come but once I leave you go straight home" She gave me a huge smile and hugged me, "What's this for?" she looked up "Nothing, Love you and don't be mad" she said, "Love ya too and oh gosh what did you do" I said and I flash stepped up to Hokage Tower.

We were in my office. I had kept it the way my mom had organized, but I did change it up a bit. I walked out and we headed to Tsuna's office. "Victoria what did you do?" I asked, she smiled "I did nothing, Shizune told me something, you'll find out" I sighed and It wasn't worth my time to try to choke it out of her. Shikamaru Trained her to be very strong willed in case if any one wants to know confidential information. She is supposed to be like that with others and not me, annoying little brat sister.

I opened the door, there was Shikaku, Shikamaru, Shizune, and Aunt Tsuna. Tonton was sleeping on the floor, I looked down at my sister, she had the most idiotic smile in the world and went over and stood next to Shizune, "Uh Hi guys, you summoned me?" I asked. I noticed Shizune whispered something to Tori and her smile was like some character in a comic book, I think his name was the Joker, something like that.

"Now Y/n, you and Shikamaru have to go under cover for a week and observe this merchant, we believe he stole from the lord of the land of rice patties. Then once the week's over, if you find evidence that he has" Tsuna then looked at me, "You eliminate him. If he is who we think, he is a high ranking assassin, so Y/n go all in, no holding back. Shikamaru, you will assist Y/n in this mission in any way she needs you too"

I wasn't happy about getting sent on a mission with him, Shikamaru and I, we have changed, "With all do respect Aunt Tsuna. I think I can do this mission on my own, no offense Shikamaru." he gave me a dead blank expression, I was going to walk out but I was pulled back harshly by Aunt Tsuna "WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE YOUNG LADY!!!! You and Shikamaru will go on this mission, if you leave without him. I'll suspend you from doing missions for a month!" I turned around, she was serious, I rolled my eyes and she tried to smack me but I was faster and jumped over her, "Too slow. Fine, but has he ever done a mission like this?" I asked and I looked at him and "Not exactly but I can handle it" he said confidently, I sighed, "Alright, we leave in 15 minutes. Meet me at the gates"

I walked out and ran to my office, I sat down on my desk and looked down thinking of all the 'what if's'.

"Wow, you would have killed for a mission like this when you were 12" "Tori!!! Shut up and no! I was naive and wait! Why am I explaining myself to you? And why are you in my office!!" I said she sat down on my couch, "You always come here when your frustrated or don't know what to think of a situation". This kid had me figured out. "What ever, I have to go now, be safe, I made lots of food, if you run out, Mrs. Haruno said you can come over and eat with them" I kissed her forehead and poked it as well, "Wait, I want to drop you off at the gates with big brother!!!" I sighed. I flash stepped us their and Shikamaru was already there.

Tori went to say her goodbyes to Shikamaru, after a few minutes I approached them, "Ready to go?' I asked, he nodded, I turned back around and I hugged Tori quickly "Love you angel" I whispered, "Love you too, come back home soon" I nodded and as we ran off "TAKE CARE OF HER FOR ME SHIKAMARU, HAVE FUN, LOVE YOU TWO!!!" she yelled, typical Tori.

*One day later*

It had been slightly awkward between me and Shikamaru, we only talked about the mission, and that was it, no personal feeling involved, just how he and I liked it to be. I am like Naruto and Sakura, letting their feelings get involved, but to be a good Shinobi and ruler, you must not let that happen. I have to do a better job at that.

We made it to our first inn, Shikamaru was going to do all the talking, "Reservation for Shikamaru Nara" and the desk lady smiled, "Congratulations to both of you. Here you got Mr. Nara" I was confused as to why she said that, we were in room 400, the top floor.

Once Shikamaru opened the door, "What the fuck" I mumbled, Shikamaru dropped his mission bag in shock. It was a honeymoon sweet, one king sized bed, and a tea table and the door to the bathroom was open and it looked just as bad as the bed. "They must have it wrong? Y/n check the paper Lady Tsunade gave you" I reached in my pocket and took out the folded paper, and it said room 400, and the person who ordered it was Shizune and Tori. Of course it was them

"No, we're in the right spot" I told him, so we went in and closed the door. I took off the swans from the bed and blew away the stupid rose petels. "You can take the bed" I said. I was heading for the window, I was used to sleeping on trees. I felt him grab my wrist "No you take the bed, you're the one that's going to do most of the heavy work on this mission" he said, his eyes looked warm and soft. I froze for a moment, "Uh n-no don't say that! Look, although I prefer going solo, your super smart and you think of the best strategies, you and that head of yours need rest" why did I stutter, I never do that!!

He sighed "Y/n, you're the lady here and as the umm man I have to give you the bed??" he was so unsure of what he just said. I was confused as well, "Since when have you been a gentleman, If I remembered you yourself said you weren't a classy guy". He was thinking, "Gosh, let's just share the bed instead of making this way too complicated!" I said now, getting frustrated.

I pushed him onto the bed, catching him off guard and somehow his leg got tangled up with mine. Once his back hit the bed, the lights went off, smaller dim lights above the bed turned on and saxophone music started to play. I landed on his chest. Oh my god this is so awkward and embarrassing I yelled on the inside panicking, I froze when his hand landed on my waist "Why do we always end up in weird positions" I whispered "What a drag" I heard him mumble and I moved my leg upwards, I felt Shikamaru tense up. "Y/n!" I looked at him and he was a blushing mess and I was confused as to why "I'm trying to get up Shika!" I moved my other leg and he grabbed my waist. He pulled me off of him and I landed on the bed next to him, "That's an easier solution" he said getting up and he picked up a remote next to the bed stand and pushed a few buttons and the room went back to normal, "I am going to go change in the bathroom, you can um change in here"

I got up and looked at myself in the mirror, my face was red, uggh stupid feeling's don't betray me now!

I went and opened my bag to get my tank top and sweats but, they weren't there, it was a pink short nightgown. "Victoria" it had to be her, "I'm coming out!" and Shikamaru came back in, "Why aren't you dressed?". I pulled out the lace nightgown and threw it at him, "Tori thought it would be nice to pull a prank on me. I would never wear such a lacy skimpy thing" Shikamaru went in his bag, "Here, I have an extra pair of shorts, you can adjust them, and a green shirt. Take it" and he gave them to me. "Um Thanks" I ran to the bathroom, the bathroom screamed 'come in and get cozy with your significant other' I rolled my eyes, I changed quickly, the shorts were longer then the normal pair but that's expected since he is now taller than me. And his shirt was very much oversized.

I went back in the room, he was already in bed, I turned off the lights, and went on my side of the bed.

*Two hours later*

I was still up, trying not to toss and turn since I was sharing a bed with him. I just couldn't sleep. I felt strange, as my mind ran A million miles per hour.

"I know your up Y/n" Shikamaru said, "I turned around to face him, "Let's drink some green tea, maybe that will put you to sleep" he said and he got up

He still remembered? It's been so long since I last saw him or even had a proper talk with him, I owe him that much at least, don't I?
