Chapter 23: Shizuka's Maisonette

"So... What do you guys want to do now?"

Hiroto asked as he sat down on the stairs next to a long river while Rei and Takashi sat down with him.

"It would take a while a few days if we have just gone straight to Takagi's or Takashi's home... And I don't think we'll last that long seeing how exhausted all of you look"

Hiroto said as they started to open the pack of biscuits that he bought with him. Showing how starved they are for not eating anything for 2 days straight.

"I might have a place that we can use. It's quite nearby, so I think we can just walk there"

"Does it belong to your boyfriend?"

Takagi asked, causing her to panic as she immediately denied her assumption. Raising her hands in front of her before she shook her head to the side.

"N-No! It belongs to a friend a mine..."

She said before glancing at Hiroto who was wiping his machete with the jacket of his uniform. Making him notice her gaze as he looked at her direction.

"A-A FEMALE friend of mine!!"

She emphasized as a tinge of pink coloured her cheeks. Making Hiroto look at her in confusion. Wondering why she had to say that while looking at him.

"S-She was always out of the house because of work. She let me stay there and gave me the key to clean and maintain it while she's gone"

She hurriedly explained while Takagi and Hirano both looked at her in suspicion. All while Hiroto looked away with a disinterested expression on his face like he couldn't care less if she does have a boyfriend.

"I-I'm telling the truth! I don't have a boyfriend, Hiroto!

"... Why are you telling him that?"

Takagi said as she glared at her while Saeko only stared at her direction.

"N-Nothing in particular...."

She said as she averted her eyes and started playing with her fingers. Making Takagi frown in response.

"You're so popular, aren't you Hiroto?"

"... Why are you guys dragging me into this..."

Hiroto said with an exhausted smile on his face.

"Is it an apartment?"

Hirano asked as he changed the topic. Helping Hiroto out as he gave him a thumbs up. Making him look at them in confusion.

"It's a maisonette just beside the river. It's also close to a convenience store... Oh! She also has a huge care that looks like a tank about this big!"

She said as she spread her arms wide. Making Takagi hold her nape while standing in front of Hiroto.

"Well... I'm a bit tired, and I think I'll take a shower while they're still working electricity"

She said, causing Hiroto to stand up from his seat and looked at Shizuka with a light smile on his face.

"Then, let's go check it out first. It would be troublesome if we get ambushed on the way, so we'll see if its safe. Shizuka, let's go"

He said as he pointed his thumb towards the motorcycle on his back. Climbing up the stairs to get ready to start the engine, but was stopped by both Takagi and Saeko who placed their hands on his shoulder.

"... What?"

"Don't tell me you're going there alone with her?"

"Of course, it's much faster if it's just the two of us"
