3rd pov

a few weeks had passed, and y/n had healed enough to walk around on his own and do normal daily activities.

he was still advised not to do any exercises that would stretch or strain his abdomen, so basically every method of training he did.

he was currently sitting before fury, who had asked to meet with him the day before.

"i'm sure you've seen the news, y/n. everyone thinks you're a hero," fury said.

y/n nodded. "i have, but why have you asked me here?"

fury leaned forward and placed his elbows on the glass table between him and y/n.

"well for one thing, you're dumb as shit. why on earth would you run into a hydra facility alone? you were bound to get hurt," fury scolded.

"i had to! i dont care whether or not i was in danger, those people were suffering and i wasn't going to let it go on for even one more second!" y/n yelled a little more loudly than he thought he would.

fury didn't flinch nor jump in surprise. he just stared at y/n with his one eye. y/n sighed and frowned, falling backwards into his chair.

"i'm sorry for yelling," he mumbled, folding his arms.

"anyway, i didn't just call you here to scold you. the public has been going crazy over you. they want to know who you are and if you're an avenger," fury explained.

"where are you going with this?" y/n asked.

"i've arranged it so that you could become an official avenger. all you have to do is agree," fury said.

y/n sat up in his chair, placing his hands palm down on the table. "are you serious?"

fury closed his eye and nodded.

y/n was speechless. it's not every day you get the offer to be an avenger. he does live with the avengers, and he does interact with them almost every day. who's to say he wasn't already —sort of— an avenger?

"yeah, i'll do it. totally," y/n said.

fury raised his eyebrows. "i thought it'd take you longer to decide."

"i live with them, i've gone on missions with them, i've been tasked with supervising a god, i feel like the job wouldn't be much different with being an avenger." y/n shrugged.

"it's a lot harder, though. everyone will always be watching what you're doing. your life won't be the same," fury continued to warn him.

"it kind of sounds like you don't want me to be an avenger," y/n chuckled. fury didn't laugh with him. y/n stopped laughing.

"do you not want me to be an avenger?" he asked.

"is that what you really want? to be an avenger?" fury asked, avoiding y/n's question.

"do you not want me to be an avenger, fury?" y/n asked again. fury exhaled sharply.

"i want what's best for you," fury said.

"and you think that what's best for me is not being an avenger?" y/n asked.

"you'd be safer," fury stated.

y/n laughed.

"well why the hell did you bring me here then? if you don't want me to be then why even ask?" y/n said, running a hand through his hair.

"even if it's not what i want, you still deserve to have a choice in the matter. this is the final word, do you want to he an avenger?" fury asked.

"yes."

y/n stood before a large crowd of people. he looked at all of them and took in all of the diverse faces he saw.

behind him stood all of the avengers and a few body guards.

he cleared his throat and leaned down to speak into the small microphone in front of him.

"um, hi," he said. lights flashed all around him as people took pictures of him.

"my name is y/n. but i am also known, though only to a few, as vidar odinson. i am son of odin, half brother of thor," y/n said, and people began pushing each other as they shouted questions at him.

"if you're thor's brother then why have we never heard of you?" someone asked, holding a microphone as close as to him as they cold.

"i was raised here on earth. i did not know i was of asgardian decent until just recently in my life," y/n answered honestly.

"if you're thor's brother, are you also a god?" another reporter asked, shoving a microphone in his face. two guards had to hold the reporter back.

"yes. i am the god of vengeance, though i don't see myself above any of you for that reason. we are equals," y/n said.

more and more reporters and people bombarded y/n, and more guards had to run out so that they could hold the people back.

"are you aware of the videos of you floating around? what were you doing in baghdad? who were those people?" a reporter asked.

y/n frowned and took a deep breath. "i am not permitted to give you that information. i apologize."

"a video of you from the attack on new york has resurfaced as well. a video of you taking down an alien to save a crowd of people is a now a fan favorite."

y/n blinked. "i'm sorry, fan favorite? i have fans?"

many people in the crowd shouted yes.

y/n laughed and lowered his head to hide his face. he scratched the back of his neck bashfully.

"well, thank you," he said, "now, we've gotten a bit off track."

"today i'm here to announce to you all that after this i will officially be an avenger," y/n said, doing jazz hands.

cameras flashed everywhere and the crowd went wild.

"what is your hero name?"

y/n looked up as he thought about it. he smiled and bent back down to the microphone.

"my hero name? vidar will suffice, i suppose," y/n clarified.

everyone cheered and more cameras flashed.

y/n spoke over the ruckus. "i am honored to be bestowed upon such a title. to be an avenger. it is a great responsibility and i will strive to keep humanity safe a—"

the sound of a gun shot rang out. y/n felt something hit his head and he stumbled backwards from the force.

he tripped on his own foot and fell to the ground. screams erupted from every direction. y/n just got shot in the head!

the avengers ran from where they were standing and to y/n's side.

y/n sat up with a groan. the crowd went dead silent. y/n stood up and walked back to up to the podium.

y/n rubbed his forehead and winced as his fingers ran over a small welt forming where he was hit.

"well that wasn't very nice."

and the crowd went wild.
