song: b.o.b. (bombs over baghdad) - outkast
(this song is a fuckin BOP)
                              3rd pov
y/n's sat in the seat of the quinjet chewing on his thumbnail. natasha was sat in front of him and eyed him from time to time.
"are you nervous?" she finally asked. y/n looked up at her and took his thumb away from his mouth.
"a bit," y/n mumbled. natasha gave him an empathetic smile.
"this is just a scoping mission so we know what to expect when we come back later, we aren't expecting to fight anyone today," she said, trying to help calm y/n's nerves.
it didn't seem to help, though. he was just as nervous and fidgety as he was before. she couldn't blame him, remembering the state he was in when he first came back from the hydra base in germany.
the quinjet landed, and y/n sat up straight. clint climbed out of the pilot seat and grabbed his weapons, natasha doing the same. y/n didn't have any weapons on hand, since he could just summon them if need be.
they were about half a mile away from the hydra base, but the terrain was a lot different than germany. they were in a less populated area of baghdad, iraq. so it was a lot more hot and miserable. though trekking through the forest was miserable too.
they walked along the streets, passing only a few civilians on the way. they made  it to where the base was supposed to be located. there was a run-down abandoned building in it's place, and the three of them shared a look before breaking in through one of the windows.
they wandered around, looking for any signs of hydra. the building was only one story, but it had high ceilings. there were random tables and chairs strewn about, and bookshelves lining a few of the wall.
clint and natasha investigated the small scribbles of writing on the walls and y/n investigated the bookcase. he pulled each one out slightly, seeing if it would open a secret passage.
"that is so cliche, there's no way you're gonna find the entrance to a secret passage by doing that. they're too smart," clint said, his hands on his hips.
y/n pulled out a book and it clicked. dust fell from the bookshelf as it shifted to the side, a staircase leading into darkness now before him. he looked back at clint and smiled mockingly. both natasha and clint stood stunned.
"what are you waiting for? let's go," y/n called out in a whisper. natasha and clint followed behind him quickly.
they all peaked their heads out from behind the wall, looking around the corner before continuing down the one of the halls.
natasha stopped clint and y/n and put something in their hands.
"put these in your ears, we're gonna have to split up to cover more grounds quicker," she said, and clint nodded and put it in his ear.
y/n stared down at it. he shrugged and put it in his ear, it was a tiny bit loose, but it held.
y/n took a deep, shaky breath as he walked down the hallways, the cracked cement walls bringing back painful memories. he shuddered. while he was distracted in his mind, he didn't notice the footsteps from around the corner.
he saw hydra soldiers turn the corner and he quickly hid himself behind a wall.  he heard the footsteps fade away and sighed in relief. just then, he felt a knife at his throat.
"who are you?" a voice whispered in his ear.
"y/n? are you okay? have you been caught?" natasha whispered through his ear piece.
