The whole way home I kept thinking about the date tonight

The whole way home I kept thinking about the date tonight. I'm dreading it. I don't know how I'm going to make it through an entire evening of watching my best friend have his hands all over the girl I'm in love with.

In a perfect world I would be looking forward to going to dinner and a movie with Tessa, because she would be mine. The entire world around us would be forgotten and we'd be lost in each other.

I sure got myself into a mess.

When I get home to mine and Zed's apartment, he's already there. He really is my best friend, but ever since he asked Tessa out without even giving me a warning, there has been tension between us. I try to hide it, and to be honest, I think he is too wrapped up in Tessa to even notice my feelings toward either of them.

"Hey," Zed says as he peeks out from behind the fridge door.

"Hey."

"I heard you are finally joining us for date night."

"Yeah, Tessa didn't give me much of a choice," I laugh.

"I wouldn't worry about it. I've met Emma. She's pretty cool. Don't tell Tessa, but she's also hot," he laughs. "You're a lucky guy," he says as he pats me on the back.

What the hell is he talking about? He's the luckiest guy in the world because he has Tessa.

"Yeah, Tessa seems to think we'll hit it off, but I'm not so sure. I'm not even looking to date right now."

"Well, just give it a chance. She seems to be into that bad boy look, so maybe you'll at least get lucky." He winks.

"Well, alright then," I say as I roll my eyes. "I have some stuff to do before tonight, so I'm going to head to my room."

"Alright, man. I'm going to meet up with Tessa now. We'll see you at Blind Bob's at 6. Don't be late or Tessa will kill you," he laughs as he exits the apartment.

I go to my room and lie back on my bed and just stare up at the ceiling. I wish I was spending tonight the way I spend all my Friday nights now, staying alone in my room pretending Tessa is here with me. It's gotten me through some lonely nights. I drift off to sleep thinking of her perfect lips and mesmerizing blue-grey eyes.

I wake up with just enough time to throw on a fresh black shirt and make sure I look like I haven't been fantasizing about a certain blonde.

"Fuck, this is going to be torture." I try one last time to come up with any excuse to get out of this nightmare of a night. When I have no luck coming up with anything Tessa would actually believe, I take a deep breath and leave for Blind Bob's.
