I lie awake holding Tessa close to me in my small bed, still trying to wrap my head around the fact that she's actually in my bedroom in my home in London. I gently kiss the top of her head, accidentally causing her to shift in my arms.
"Hardin?" she asks in a sleepy voice.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you, baby."
"That's okay," she says through a yawn.
"Did you have a good sleep?"
Tessa thinks for a moment before responding. "I can't believe I let you talk me into having sex with you on your tiny bed with your mom just down the hall!" She follows her rant with a firm hit to my chest.
"Hey! I give you multiple orgasms last night and I get hit?"
"Shhh!" Tessa scolds and hits me again.
"Ouch!" I chuckle. "I see... You like it rough, baby," I say seductively before turning her to face me and kissing her before she can hit me again.
"Um, we should get ready and head downstairs," Tessa says, a bit flustered. "Wait! It's already noon?!"
"Yeah." I shrug.
"How did I sleep so late? Why didn't you wake me?" She hits me again.
"Hit me one more time and you're getting a spanking." I chuckle. "I thought I'd let you sleep. I figured you'd be exhausted from the jet lag."
"Oh. Well, we better hurry and get downstairs. Your mom's probably waiting for us."
Tessa quickly gets dressed, while I take my time.
"No..." I groan. "You did not bring those to England with you."
"What?" Tessa asks as she looks down at herself.
"Those damn fluffy cloud pants."
"Hey! What's wrong with my fluffy cloud pants?"
"They look ridiculous," I tease.
"Well, I love them! And I never get to wear them at home, since you're always getting me naked somehow," she huffs.
"And don't think I won't try to get you out of them on this side of the world, too."
"Hardin! You sleep in your childhood bedroom for one night and you turn into a horny teenager?"
"No." I laugh. "I'm always horny, especially when I get to see you looking like that, in my shirt." I lick my lips.
"Well, keep it in your pants! We're going downstairs now."
"I'd rather put it in you." I smirk.
"Just come on!" Tessa groans and pulls me downstairs with her.
"Oh, you two are finally awake," my mum greets us.
"Yeah, sorry we missed breakfast," Tessa sweetly apologizes.
"Oh, that's fine. Did you sleep well?"
"Um, yeah. We did," Tessa says and her cheeks begin to turn a light shade of pink.
I decide to take the attention off Tessa. "Mum, there's something we want to tell you," I announce before Tessa and I join her at the table.
"You're pregnant!" she gasps.
"No, no. And not from a lack of trying," I tease.
"Oh my gosh!" Tessa hits me for a fourth time.
"Oh." My mum laughs. "What did you have to tell me then?"
"What are you doing June 24th?"
"Um, I don't know... Why?"
"We finally have a wedding date set."
"Oh, you're kidding! A June wedding! How perfect!" She starts smothering me with kisses.
"Mum..." I groan.
"Tessa, will I finally get to meet your parents then?"
"Mum..." I whisper and shake my head.
"Oh. Um... I-I don't really have any family," Tessa replies quietly.
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"M-my dad left when I was young, and my mother and I don't really get along."
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"It's okay." Tessa reaches for my hand and squeezes it. "Hardin is my family now." She smiles.
"I'm so happy you two found each other." My mum smiles. "How about we have a girl's day today? I'll take you to lunch and we'll go to the spa."
"Oh, that sounds great, Mrs. Dan— I mean, Trish."
"Great."
"What the hell am I supposed to do for lunch?" I joke.
"Oh, stop being so dramatic, Hardin. You can find something in the fridge."
"Gee, thanks." I roll my eyes.
"I'll go get ready now. Be back in twenty minutes!" Tessa chirps before running back upstairs.
"Hardin, there's something I want to give you while Tessa's upstairs," my mum whispers.
"Okay..."
My mum gets up and grabs a little black box. She places it on the table in front of me and I notice it's a ring box. "Open it," she instructs.
I open it to reveal a beautiful antique engagement ring. "Mum, what's this for?"
"It's for you to give to your fiancée. I noticed she wasn't even wearing a ring yet."
"Of course I'm going to get her one." I roll my eyes.
"Hardin, this is your grandmother's ring. I think it'd be wonderful if you gave it to Tessa."
"But I wanted to get her one myself," I whine.
"Hardin, it's been in our family for generations. And your beautiful bride-to-be just admitted she doesn't have any other family, besides you. Don't you think she'd appreciate having something that means so much to our family?"
"Yes," I admit. "And she does love antiques. She really would love this. It would mean the world to her to have something that's been in our family for so long. Thanks, Mum."
"You're welcome." She smiles. "Do you think you might propose here? Wouldn't that be romantic?"
"It would, but I already have the perfect idea for a proposal in mind. And now that I have the perfect ring, I can't wait to ask her to marry me... again." I laugh.
"And here I thought my son wouldn't even propose once." My mum laughs. "Here she comes, hide the ring," she whispers.
I quickly put the ring in my pocket before Tessa can see.
"I'm ready!" Tessa chirps.
"Okay, this will be so much fun!" my mum beams.
"Don't spend the whole time talking about me!" I joke.
"My son has quite an ego," my mum jokes.
"Believe me, I know." Tessa giggles before the two of them leave for lunch.
