"Tess?! Are you okay?" I shout as I rush over to her.
"No... I think I twisted my ankle."
"Here, let me look. Wow, it's already swelling."
"Well, I guess the hike is over."
"Can you walk?"
"Um, maybe," she says as she gets up and tries to stand on her ankle. "Ow! Nope, can't walk."
"I'm so sorry for distracting you with my stupid jokes."
"It's not your fault. I'm the one who didn't wear proper shoes. How am I going to get back to the car?"
"I'll carry you."
"You'll what?"
"I'll carry you. You're not that heavy," I joke.
"Is that another stupid joke?" Tessa scolds.
"I guess it is," I chuckle. "But I am going to carry you back to the car."
"But-"
"Tessa, there's no way around it. You can't walk and the car is at the beginning of the trail."
"Okay, Hardin," she sighs.
"Okay, Tess," I say as I line my back up with her. "Up you go!" I lift her up by holding on to the back of her thighs as she wraps her arms around my chest.
"This is kind of fun!" Tessa giggles.
"I'm glad I can be so entertaining for you," I chuckle. What I wouldn't do for this girl.
I start walking us back down the trail toward the car.
"Weeeee!" she bursts out laughing.
"Well, at least we know you like riding me."
"Hardin!" she shrieks and I laugh.
"There's my innocent Tessa again." I smile.
"Just keep walking, horsey," she whispers in my ear.
We finally make it back to the car and I gently put Tessa down, instructing her to lean against the car until I can unlock the doors. I open her door and help her in. Then, I walk over to my side and get in. "Okay, are you ready for this horrible hike to be over?" I ask.
"It wasn't all horrible."
As I start the car I say, "You're right. I got to see you all jealous..."
"I meant... I liked being in nature. It's so beautiful here. And of course, I didn't mind the ride back to the car," she giggles.
I begin to laugh.
"What's so funny?" she asks curiously.
"You just helped me realize what I want to do tonight for my choice."
"Oh, what?"
"Well, you got your ride, now I want my ride," I say as I squeeze her thigh.
"You're a pervert, you know that?" she says as she tries not to laugh.
"Yes, but only for you."
"You aren't serious, though, right?"
"No, of course not! You're hurt. I'm spending my night taking care of you."
"Aw, Hardin, you don't have to do that. It's my own fault, anyway."
"You're my girlfriend and it's my job to take care of you. Now, no arguments."
"Okay, Hardin."
"That was easy."
"I love this side of you. I mean, no one else on earth would believe it exists, but I love that you let me see this sweet, gentle, loving side of you."
"What can I say? You bring out the best in me."
"And you make me feel alive," she says while reaching over and grabbing my hand that's not on the steering wheel.
We drive for a little longer, with Tessa still holding my hand, until we finally arrive back at the cabin.
I get out of the car and open Tessa's door. Instead of giving her a piggy back ride, this time I just scoop her up in my arms, so that her knees are hooked around my right arm and my left arm is wrapped around her back. I carry her up to the entrance of the cabin and manage to unlock and open the door, all while still holding her. As I carry her through the door, I quietly laugh to myself. "Do you know what this reminds me of?" I ask her.
"What?"
"Well, I am carrying you over the threshold..."
"Hardin, don't you dare even say it!"
"Come on, Tess! Would marrying me be so bad?"
"You know it's not that. You're freaking me out with all this marriage talk!"
"Fine, I guess we'll just continue to live in sin then," I pout.
I walk over to the couch and gently put her down. I then go to the freezer and gather up some ice and wrap it in a towel. "Here, Tess, put this on your ankle."
"Thank you. That feels so good."
"Is there anything else I can do for you?"
"Sit with me?"
"Of course!" I gently lift her legs, sit down on the cushion, then put her legs down on my lap. I start to massage the foot she didn't hurt and she begins to quietly moan. "Does that feel good?" I ask, already knowing the answer.
"So good. You're really good at that."
"It seems I'm just really good at anything that can make you moan."
"Oh, shush!" She blushes.
"I love you, baby, and I'm so sorry you hurt yourself today," I say as I start to massage a little up her leg.
"I love you. Thank you for always taking care of me."
"I always will. Till death do us part!"
"Hardin!" she screams at me and I laugh.
"Okay, I'm going to make us some dinner. Want anything special?" I ask as I get up off the couch.
"How about that fettuccine Alfredo you make?"
"Sure, I think we brought everything we need for that. You really like it?"
"I do! It's delicious!"
"Okay, your wish is my command," I say as I lean down to kiss her.
As I'm walking into the kitchen to start dinner, I smile to myself thinking about how the night turned out last time I made fettuccine Alfredo for Tessa. That night was the first time I got to really pleasure Tessa and I'll never forget it. I'm so thankful she's here with me and I can call her mine.
