The next morning Hardin and I decide to spend our last day at the cabin having the picnic we never got a chance to have a few days ago.
"Are you almost ready, Tess?" Hardin calls to me.
"I'm coming now!"
Hardin and I pack the picnic basket and blanket in the trunk and leave to go to the park.
"Tessa, are you sure you want to go to this park again after what happened last time?"
"Yes. I'm not going to let them ruin our time together. This is what I want to do for our last day."
"Okay, my brave girl," he says as he squeezes my thigh.
This time Hardin finds a different parking spot, so we don't have to walk the same trail as last time. After a few minutes we reach the park.
"This spot looks good!" I chirp.
"Okay," Hardin says as he lays the blanket on the grass. He passes me some potato salad and fried chicken he made.
"This is delicious!" I moan in between bites.
"Is there anything I can't do?" Hardin boasts and I roll my eyes at his ego.
"Well, I made dessert. Don't I get any credit?" I pout.
"Yeah... It's not burnt this time!" he says and breaks out into a loud chuckle.
"You don't ever want to have sex with me again, do you?" I ask as I glare at him.
"I'm just joking, baby," he says as he rubs my thigh.
"Well, you can be a jerk sometimes." I throw a baby carrot at him from the container of vegetables I packed.
"Only sometimes? That's an improvement over how I used to be." He smiles proudly.
"True," I say and throw another carrot at him and start to giggle.
"Is that funny to you?" he asks as he picks up the carrot and eats it.
"Mmm-hmm," I hum and throw another, accidentally hitting him in the face.
"Oh, you're going to pay for that!" he warns and starts to tickle me until I'm rolling around on the grass, struggling to breathe from laughing too hard.
"Stop!" I beg.
"Only if you kiss it better for me. "
"Okay! Okay!" I continue to laugh.
"Good," he says and stops tickling me.
I get up off the grass and give him a quick peck on the cheek.
"I think you can do better than that, Tessa."
I lean in to kiss his cheek again, but he turns his head and our lips collide. He gently places a hand on my cheek and before I know it, our lips are moving against each other and our tongues are playing tag with each other.
After a few minutes he pulls away from me. "Okay, you're forgiven."
"I am?" I giggle.
"Yes," he says as he gives me one last quick kiss on my lips.
I don't say anything more and instead watch Hardin for a few minutes, until he finally notices.
"What is it?" he asks curiously.
"I just love this side of you. I love watching you smile. I love hearing you laugh."
"Tess..."
"Don't be shy," I tease.
"Only you get to see this side of me."
"That's a shame," I say as I rub his cheek. "Hardin, do you think we could take some photos? I want to remember this moment." I blush.
Hardin takes my phone from me and we take a few photos of us smiling, kissing and making funny faces. Then, Hardin starts to tickle me and snaps a bunch of action shots of me laughing and begging him to stop.
"How many of these did you take?" I giggle as I see I have a hundred new photos in my camera roll.
"Not nearly enough."
"Oh! These look awful!" I cringe.
"I think you look beautiful."
"You're just saying that."
"No. And don't you dare delete them. I want copies of all one hundred of them."
"Really?"
"Yep. I'm going to put them all up on our wall."
"Stalker much?" I giggle.
"And you don't even know about the ones I take when you look all cute sleeping."
"You don't take me sleeping!"
"I do." He smirks and brushes my hair behind my ear.
"Hardin!" I groan and cover my face with my hands.
"I love you, so much, Tess. Let's pack this stuff up and go for a walk. I have a surprise for you."
