As I wake up, memories of Hardin gazing into my eyes as he made love to me flash through my mind. I can't help but smile as I reach for him. "Hardin?" He's not in bed with me.
I get up and wander out of the bedroom in search of my romantic, yet brooding boy. I find him in the kitchen making breakfast.
"I see someone's finally awake!" Hardin chirps.
"Good morning, Mr. Scott," I say as I kiss Hardin good morning.
"Technically, it's afternoon."
"Wait, what?" I gasp as I look at the clock. "It's already noon! Why'd you let me sleep so late? We've wasted almost half the day."
"Because someone kept you up late last night and I thought you could use the rest." He winks and I immediately start to blush.
"I guess you're right. I did have a great sleep. And it's nice to see the power is back on."
"Yeah, I was able to make you some breakfast, but I guess we should call it brunch now?"
"Well, whatever it is, it looks delicious."
"Dig in!"
Hardin and I sit down and begin to eat. Halfway through brunch Hardin finally breaks the silence. "Sorry about last night. I know I was a little intense."
"Just a little," I joke.
"I know I probably freaked you out, but I think my emotions got the best of me."
"That's okay, Hardin. It was an emotional night for us."
"You're still okay with everything that happened, right?"
"I am. I woke up happier than I've been in a long time." I smile at him.
"Me, too. But every moment I spend with you is the happiest moment of my life."
"Hardin..." I blush.
"It's true. I can't wait to have more moments like these, but instead of waking up after making love to my girlfriend, you'll be my wife."
I can't help but spit out my orange juice. "Wife?"
"Yeah. Wife."
"Hardin! I thought you just finished apologizing for being so intense last night."
"I did, but that doesn't mean I don't still feel that way."
"Well, this is too much for me right now."
"Were you lying when you said you'd never leave me?" Hardin asks in such a worried tone it almost breaks my heart.
"Of course I wasn't lying."
"Then what's the problem?"
"The problem is you already have us married and we only just had sex for the first time last night!"
"So, you don't think of things like that?"
"I guess I think of it happening someday, but the way you're talking, it's like we'll be wed before the end of this trip."
"I'm sorry, Tess. All this relationship and love stuff is new to me and I guess I got carried away. I just love you so much and I know that will never change, so yes, I think about us being husband and wife someday."
"I guess I should feel special."
"Why's that?"
"I don't think any other girl has ever been able to get Hardin Scott to consider marriage."
"That's true. Only you," he says as he gets up from the table and walks behind me to give me a kiss.
"Can we stop with the heavy stuff now?" I beg.
"Tess, I need to know if you would ever marry me, like someday, or am I too damaged to be considered marriage material?" Hardin frowns.
I stand from the table and take Hardin's hands in mine. "Hardin, you're not damaged. You've grown into such a caring and loving man. You'll make a wonderful husband someday."
"To you?"
"Yes... to me. But please don't get any ideas any time soon," I half joke.
"Okay, Tess. I'll just have to cherish you as my girlfriend for now, but don't think I'm letting you get off that easy. You will marry me, someday."
"Someday..." I repeat.
