"Hardin? I asked you who this strange woman is."
"Um... w-well, she's just..." I stutter.
"The name's Janine." She smirks. "It's nice to meet you... Tammy, is it?"
"Tessa," she corrects her. "Hardin, can I see you for a moment?" Tessa asks before she walks into the bedroom.
I take a deep breath and follow Tessa into the bedroom.
"What is that woman doing in our apartment?"
"Okay, let me explain..." I beg.
"I'm waiting."
"I swear, this is all a huge coincidence. She's staying with her friend down the hall and came to return some of your mail. She didn't know I lived here and I didn't know she was in town."
"It didn't look like she was returning mail when I walked in on you two."
"I know... Tess, I told her to leave, but she wouldn't listen."
"Hardin, you don't think I know who Janine is? Zed told me all about you two. What did she want? Was she trying to sleep with you? Doesn't she know I'm your girlfriend?"
"Tess..."
"Oh, she did know, but didn't care?"
"I'm sorry, Tessa. I was trying to get her to leave, but she doesn't know how to take no for an answer."
"I want that slut out of our apartment. Now."
"Okay, Tess."
"And if I see her here again, let's just say it won't end well, for either of you."
"Tessa, nothing happened. Nothing was going to happen. I love you and only you."
"Just get rid of her, Hardin," she huffs.
I go to leave the bedroom to tell Janine to get out for the hundredth time when Tessa stops me. "You know what? Let me do it," she says angrily as she pushes past me.
"I don't know who you think you are, Janice, but you're going to get the fuck out of my apartment right now. And if I see you back here, well, let's just say you won't want to find out what will happen. Got it, honey?"
"She's a feisty one, Scott," Janine cackles.
"Do I need to throw you out myself?" Tessa warns.
"Bye, Hardin." Janine winks. "It was a pleasure meeting you, Tammy," Janine says as she leaves and slams the door.
"What a bitch!" Tessa shouts.
"Wow, Tessa... I've never seen that side of you," I say, still in shock.
"Hardin, I'm very angry right now."
"I know. I'm sorry, but like I said, I had no idea she was here."
"I really didn't want to come home to see one of your old fuck buddies with her hands all over your half naked body."
"Tessa, please understand, that's all she was. I didn't ever have feelings for her."
"I just can't believe how angry you got over Noah, but you let this happen in our apartment..."
"I didn't let anything happen! She barged in here and I tried to get her to leave!"
"I don't want to talk about this anymore," she sighs.
"Okay... How did things go with Emma?"
"Not well. She spent the whole time crying. I got to break my best friend's heart today."
"Is there anything I can do for you, Tess?"
"No. I'm going to go take a bath," Tessa says as she leaves the room.
The rest of the evening is spent in awkward silence.
After dinner, Tessa goes to bed early. I'm unsure if she wants me near her, but I can't take another night of us fighting, so I crawl into bed beside her. She lets me hold her once I get into bed.
"I'm sorry we fought, Hardin," Tessa whispers.
"So am I. Tess, she means nothing to me. You're the only one for me."
"I know. I love you, Hardin."
"I love you, Tess," I say as I kiss the top of her head.
