Season 3 | Chapter 11

-The In-Between-

Y/n POV

    The air was just thick and heavy with smoke. Fighting could be heard in all directions. I found myself coughing and trying to clear my lungs. I pulled myself up and propped myself against the alley wall. My shoulder was sore from when I fell back earlier. I gathered my breath and peeked around the corner to find a toppled school bus. My eyes quickly looked around to see if someone associated with Lucifer was around. It didn't matter how bad I wanted to help anyone that may still be in or around this bus, I couldn't handle any of Lucifer's main circle. I'm not even sure I could handle any of his low-level pawns.

    I didn't see anyone, so I took a deep breath and ran for it. My legs pumped and pushed hard. If I made it through this day, my legs were going to be wet noodles. The side of the overturned bus passed me, and I carefully made my way around it, looking for an opening or any way in at all. I had to go around the entire bus but found that the back was opened. I poked my head in and spoke in a loud whisper, only trying to get the attention of whoever was in there.

    "Hey, is anyone in here?"

    No one said anything. After a moment, I heard some movement and saw a little girl poke her head out. I motioned for her to come toward me.

    "I won't hurt you, I want to get you out of here." She looked around and then slowly made her way toward me. "Careful, don't get hurt."

    I helped her out of the back of the bus and we went straight for an alley that headed back toward my place to meet up with Jooheon again. I can't use my Sole, so having her around at least one person with a Sole she can be protected, and if worse comes she can hide in the training room. After that, we can take her to the police and they can help find her parents.

    We made it to the alley when an explosion forced us into it, nearly to the end. I wrapped my arms around her to keep her from getting hurt as we rolled and slid to a stop. I got up and helped her up as quickly as I could. Keeping her behind me, I got into a prepared stance to defend us.

    This could be it. I don't know who or what that was, but we were definitely spotted and there's no way they're gonna just let us go. I have to fight to give her a chance, Sole or no.

    Thankfully, it was just two street thugs. They were likely just bottom feeders that Lucifer uses for work and tasks that were below him or any of his inner circle.

    "Looky here." One laughed. "We're allowed to kill them, right?"

    "All Lucifer wants is the last blue Sole, and even offered a reward to anyone who gets him." The other answered. "I don't think we can kill them, but maybe making them scream will get this blue trash's attention."

    "If you touch me, my daddy will beat you up!" The little girl yelled.

    "Shh... I don't think we're gonna scare them away..." I said in a small panic.

    "What was that? You think daddy's gonna come save you? Don't make me laugh, kid." The guy's arms lit up with fire and the other with lightning.

    Great... They're Sole users...

    Before I had a chance to even think of a strategy, a face I didn't wanna see came around the corner. The day just seemed like it couldn't get any worse than it's turning out to be. It was Hellfire, and he saw us. When he did, he stopped and his eyes went from me to the little girl, to me, and then to the thugs.
