Blue Embers: Season 1 Episode 4

-Nayeon's Appreciation-

~Flashback 10 years~

Jooheon POV

I was visiting Seki to bring him some vegetables from my family's small garden as a "thank you" for his help in training me to control my Sole, and by extension, my ability to fight. Seki normally leaves his door unlocked for his students so I just walked in as usual. I heard faint sounds of heavy and hard punches and/or kicks coming from the training room. Confused, I laid the bags of fresh produce on the kitchen table and made my way back to the training room we call "The Dungeon" because the training can be harsh, although he would never hurt us.

As I approached the Dungeon door, a blue light flooded brightly making me stop in my tracks. What the hell was that!? Could that be... no, it couldn't... I slowly walked toward the door, terrified as to what I would find. I got to the door and slowly peeked in to see Y/n throw a kick assisted with blue flames connect with the heavy bag, which was sent flying across the room. My eyes widened and I lost my balance, falling through the door into the room.

"Jooheon?" Seki said confused, scaring me a little, thinking I was in trouble. "Well, I guess there's no going back, now. Come, boy, we need to talk. You too, Y/n."

I gulped and looked up at a scared Y/n and a calm Seki. Both myself and Y/n followed Seki to the kitchen and sat us down. He made tea and sat a cup in front of each of us. He proceeded to explain everything to me. From where he found Y/n to what his position was, to what ARU's were.

"I have a big favor to ask of you, Jooheon," Seki spoke to me with sincerity as he always did.

"Yes, master?" I responded as I straightened my back to attention.

"Since you now know about Y/n's situation, I would like for you to act as an older brother and protect him." He continued. "He cannot be found out. People will think he is dangerous and will want to either hurt him or lock him away."

"Yes, sir! Just leave it to me!" I replied enthusiastically then looked to Y/n and gave him a thumbs up. "Count on your big brother!"

Truth be told, I wasn't scared of Y/n. I already looked at him as a brother because I had already known about his parents and that he now lived with Seki. Knowing what I know now, there's no longer a divide by the blood in our veins. Y/n is my brother. Period.

One look at Y/n shook me to my core. His eyes were tearing up. "Y/n, are you okay?"

He wasn't able to speak through his sobs, Seki gave us both a kind and relaxing smile.

"He's fine, Jooheon. Y/n didn't have a family, and now he has you." Seki explained. "He's lonely and needs someone in his life. Someone that would treat him as family."

"Y/n, you didn't do anything wrong," I said as I walked over to him and rested my hand on his shoulder and smiled. "I'll do my best to protect you. I know you'll only use your Sole for good. I've trained with you since you got here, I know you."

Starting from that day, we began training together more and more. Sparring and even using our Soles a small bit. Our training became more and more intense as Seki watched on with satisfied eyes. I watched as Seki taught him how to hide and lay low. Every time I saw someone picking on him from then on out, I stuck up for him. Obviously, I couldn't be there every time, but I did anytime I could.
