Kartikeya is the son of Lord Shiv and Parvati. He is the brother-in-law of Rishi Jaratkaru and King Nahush, and the maternal uncle of Maharishi Aastik, son of Jaratkaru and his younger sister Manasa Devi.
Lord Kartikeya was born in the form of six children and was taken care of by Kritika (wife of Sapta Rishi), hence she is also called Kartikeya Dhatri.
