After several hours of painting, you sat up in your room starting a rough sketch of something you wanted to make for yourself. What could you say, you were a workaholic when it came to your skills; besides you'd rather pour your thoughts and emotions onto a page rather than let them fester within you. You were about ready to put the drawing aside and start getting ready for tonight when a knock on the door pulled you from your thoughts.
Damn, I'm popular today. You got up and walked over, to your pleasant surprise there stood the all too familiar demon clad in red at your door. "Well hi there, stranger." You greeted him as you opened the door. His grin widened as he looked at you.
"Good evening my dear! May I come in or are you busy getting ready?"
"You may, you caught me just in time." You chuckled and stepped aside, gesturing for him to come in. He strode inside your room and glanced about, taking in the interior design that you had altered yourself to make it feel more at home.
"Wonderful! I came by because I wanted to ask you a question, dear." He turned to look at you as you walked over to your bed and sat on the edge of it.
"Hmm?"
"Are you alright? I couldn't help but notice you seemed rather off this morning. Is something troubling you?" He asked, taking strides closer to you and sat down beside you.
Again with the radio demon being concerned with my well-being, is he high? Ah well, take the respect as it comes... You thought.
"I'm alright, Alastor. Thank you. Just didn't sleep very well last night." You replied simply with the same scripted answer you were way too used to giving. It practically rolled off your tongue by this point. He gave you a look of disbelief as he smirked and raised a brow at you. You smiled sheepishly in defeat. "You don't believe me, do you?"
"I believe there might be more to it than what you're telling me." He said softly but affirmatively. "Mostly just want to make sure I hadn't done anything to upset you last evening."
"No, Al, you're fine I promise." You quipped with sincerity. "I get nightmares. I have for a while, even before I died. Sometimes it takes me a while to snap out of the weird haze it leaves me in."
He nodded and moved closer to you. "Ahh, yes screaming meemies seem to follow a lot of folks down here. Not to fret darling, for once you wake up you'll find that's all they are; bad dreams."
"Yeah, fortunately I just wake up in Hell." You joked. The stag laughed softly.
"Touché." He gently placed his hand under your chin and moved you to face him, gently stroking your cheek with his thumb. You just about melted into his touch. For some reason it made you feel safe. You leaned into it slightly as you looked into his piercing red eyes as his expression softened, you felt yours do the same. "Would you like to talk about it?" He asked.
Your smile faltered slightly as your eyes cast downward for a moment in thought, looking back up at him as you dismissed the visions in your head. "No... Not now anyway. Maybe some other time. But thank you."
He nodded and moved his hand from your chin to your cheek, cupping it gently. "If you do decide you'd like to confide in someone about it, or whatever is troubling that pretty head of yours, my office is just four floors below this and down the hall. Alright?"
You smiled and nodded, shutting your eyes, feeling him lean in and plant a gentle smooch on your forehead. Making you blush instantly and feel a little flustered, probably sweet payback for the smooch you gave him last night. "You still planning on coming to see me later?" You asked, eyes fluttering open as they met his soft gaze once more.
"I wouldn't miss it, dearie. I hope you don't mind I extended the offer to the rest of the staff. Once I told them Charlie was insistent that it would be fun for everyone." He chuckled.
"Yeah, that's fine." You replied simply. He stared into you for a moment, his pupils dilating once more in the vast assortment of red surrounding them. You bit back a nervous laugh as you were still fairly close to each other. "What is it?" You asked.
"You're rather adorable when you blush."
You felt the heat in your face amplify, no doubt making you blush even harder. Dammit, stop it. "I guess you're pretty special to have that effect on me." You admitted.
"Is that so?" He hummed.
"Mhm."
"I'm rather appreciative that you let me, if we're being honest."
You saw his eyes trail down to your lips and felt your breath hitch. Why did you feel this way? And so soon? Why were you letting him get close to you like this? All these questions swirled in your head; as they did in Alastor's head too. This was so out of character for both of you and you knew it. Yet it felt exhausting to repress it.
You leaned in closer, leaving only mere centimeters in between, feeling your heart beating steadily in your chest, until a knock on your door brought you both out of whatever haze had come over you. A quiet but audible sound of radio frequency emanated from him, disgruntled at the moment being interrupted. You rolled your eyes and put on a fake cheery voice.
"Yeees?"
"It's Charlie. Have you seen Al around? I need to ask him about something." You heard her voice call from the other side. You looked over at Alastor with a furrowed brow, he looked back at you and held his finger to his lips.
"Shh."
You smiled and rolled your eyes playfully at the buck. "Hmmm nope, I haven't seen him since breakfast. I'm sorry."
You heard the demoness sigh. "Alright. Well, thanks anyway. See you downstairs in a bit!" You heard the patter of footsteps down the carpeted hall as she walked away, you looked back at Alastor who gave you an innocent smile; which was honestly adorable.
"Shirking your duties to come talk to me? Tsk tsk, Alastor." You teased.
"I suppose you're just a bad influence on me, sweetheart." He smirked, gently pinching your cheek that he was holding before hesitantly pulling his hand away. You snickered.
"Well you better get down there before she finds out I lied for you." You smirked. "Besides, I have to start getting ready."
Alastor stood up and adjusted his coat and bow tie. "I suppose you're right. We'll be down in the foyer when you're ready to leave, doll." And with that, he teleported downstairs to go find Charlie without even giving you a chance to respond. Probably for the best, that way he couldn't see that his little term of endearment left your face redder than his whole outfit.
You sat back in bed and stared off as you were in a daze. Were you really about to kiss him? Were you out of your damn mind? Then again, maybe he was too. Given your shared reputation of not being the flirtatious type he was certainly making bold moves as well. But for some reason it felt... different with him. Little did you know, he felt it too. You shook your head and with a huff you got out of bed and began to doll yourself up for tonight.
