You turned your head to the side, slowly fading back to consciousness but still a little hazy. Visions of nightmares flashed before you in the matter of mere seconds, as well as long conversations around you (that somehow seemed to just fly by, as if time didn't matter) and then dissolved away just as quickly as you started to become aware of more of your surroundings. Your eyes fluttered open, and as they adjusted to the light you observed the clean white room around you, with medical equipment everywhere. You tried to sit up where you lay but a tugging sensation stopped you, you grimaced and looked down at the source... Seeing an IV tube in your arm.
Your eyes scanned further down and noticed that your wrists were littered with fading bruises and were accompanied by several stitches. Looking up you frantically looked around the unfamiliar room, beginning to feel a little panicked until your eyes finally landed on your lover beside you.
Is this real? You wondered, looking at him as he sat next to you but he seemed to be daydreaming off in direction of a window. His eyes looked puffy from crying, you could even make out the tear stains on his cheek.
As you looked back down at your body, it started to occur to you that it wasn't a nightmare before. Kidnapped by Val, Vox, Shane, the room they left you in... What happened actually did happen. You felt the expression on your face fall in despair as you recalled the unpleasantness.
"Alastor?" Your voice uttered weakly.
Immediately his ears flicked in your direction and he turned away from the window to face you, his dark red eyes now flickered and glowed as they looked at you.
Dare he believe his senses? There you were, eyes half lidded with exhaustion, but they were open and looking right at him. A weak smile formed on your face and a tear slipped down your cheek, just happy to see him.
"Y/n?" His staticky voice cracked, reaching forward to cup the side of your face in his hand. Which he did with such gentleness, it was almost as though he was afraid that he might shatter you with his touch. His eyes poured into you with hopefulness and disbelief. You reached up and held his hand that caressed you, leaning into his affection and let out more happy tears as you gazed at him.
You nodded slightly as your smile widened a tiny bit more. "The one and only."
"Oh, my dear~!" He cried softly as he got up and leaned forward, resting his head on your chest and carefully wrapping his arms around you. Tears of joy streamed down both of your faces. He smiled widely and with sincerity, the smile reaching his eyes. Unbeknownst to you, his tail was wagging too. You let out a soft chuckle as you leaned down, kissing the top of his head and held him close with the arm that didn't have the IV.
"Please tell me I'm not dreaming. I don't wanna wake back up in that room..." you whispered, your voice wavering with emotion.
He sat back up and pulled the side rail on the bed down so he could sit on the bed with you, leaning down and continuing to hold you. "You're really here darling, you're safe... I'm so sorry Y/n..." his brows turned upward as a look of sorrow came over his eyes, ears drooping slightly. "I should have been there. I should have-"
"Alastor?" You gently interrupted. He looked at you with wondering eyes, "They would have come up with another plan, regardless of what you or I did. I know that's shitty but it's the truth... I don't blame you, I need you to know that. Please don't beat yourself up over this, I'm alright, and I'm with you now. That's all that matters to me. I love you so very much."
His ears flattened completely now as another tear fell from his eye, at this point he just felt overjoyed that you were awake.
"How long have I been here? What even happened?" You asked, looking up and back at the room.
