(Trigger warning: mention of rape, I finally found a place for this confession chapter. But on the plus-side I got some more wholesome Al coming your way to help soften the blow)
"Made any enemies recently?" Alastor asked once you two returned to your room at the hotel.
You had remained quiet for the remainder of your time there. Unsure of just who could have been looking for you. While you suspected somebody you killed off in life, you still couldn't be certain. Whomever it was, you didn't think of them as too bright to hunt you down. You weren't necessarily afraid of them. What rattled you more is how in the hell someone managed to find the house in the first place, hoping nothing was wrong with your powers.
"No." You said, looking up at him as you sat down onto your bed, "I have my suspicions, that's about it."
"Someone from your past, perhaps."
"That's what I'm leaning towards. Probably some John Doe that I killed off, or maybe someone who's related to one and now they're angry at me." You admitted.
"Hard to believe someone would trifle with someone of your status, for example there are handfuls of folk down here that I disposed of in my lifetime, yet they don't exactly come knocking on my door for revenge because they understand how futile an effort it would be; that it would only end in painful demise."
"Maybe this persons not bright enough to realize the risk." You said flatly. You looked off to the side as your mind reeled. "Well, I certainly can't go back there any time soon. Guess I have to find a new place to stay."
"You cannot stay here?" He furrowed his brow and say down beside you.
"I'm sure I could, if I asked Charlie. But I don't want to be a mooch." You admitted. "Besides, that ball for the hotel is in a few short days and there's always the chance it'll actually make some people want to stay here for an opportunity at redemption. I don't want to take up space they may need."
Alastor couldn't bite back a slight scoff. "Darling do you truly think somebody would try?"
"You forget how many people are damned down here due to technicalities. The system of judgement is a very old one, things aren't that simple in the human world anymore; and you know that as well as I do. Shit, everything is so complicated now, you think you're doing one good thing and wind up making 12 wrong choices in a domino effect. I'm willing to bet a soul hasn't gone to heaven in ages." You rambled. "But, never the less, I'm not saying Charlie's idea for redemption will or will not work. All I'm saying is I'm sure odds are some people are going to want to try, and who am I to take up needed space when I have no interest in rehabilitation?"
"You're welcome to stay with me." He said after a brief moment of silence. You opened your mouth to speak but he quickly cut you off, gently pressing his index finger to your lips to shush you as he spoke again with affirmation. "And before you turn down the offer, no you wouldn't be mooching, as I'm more than happy to have you around. You should know that by now. You may even have your own room if you feel like things are moving too quickly, I have plenty to spare."
You blinked owlishly at him as he lowered his hand down and wrapped his arm around you. "I don't have much of a choice in this, do I?" You asked with a gentle smirk.
"Well your other options are stay here or find somewhere else. But I certainly won't have you go back to that place." he looked down at you. "Do you not wish to live together?"
You shook your head. "No, no nothing like that. I just don't want to seem like I'm taking advantage."
"You're not, don't be daft." His smile softened and furrowed his brows. "My dear you're the best part of my day, don't let your pride or guilt get in the way of realizing that. If I didn't want you to, I wouldn't have made the suggestion. Understood?"
