Chapter 40

"You're okay!!!"

"I'm okay!" You chuckled. "Come on now, you didn't think you'd get rid of me that easy, did you?"

Much to your surprise, both Charlie and Angel ran over to you and embraced you in a group hug while Vaggie and Alastor sat back and snickered at the site. Sure you weren't much of a hugger, but, you couldn't blame them this time. You just sighed softly and smiled, rolling your eyes playfully as you allowed them to do so.

"Never do that again!! Do you hear me??" Angel said, both of them pulling away and stepping back.

"I'll try my darnedest." You teased.

"So, we're overjoyed to see you awake, we have to do a few tests if that's alright with you. Nothing invasive, just to make sure everything's the way it should be. Okay?" The nurse prefaced before setting her clipboard down and put on a pair of gloves, then putting on her stethoscope.

"Yup."

"Can you sit up for me please?"

You used your free arm and most of your core strength to sit up straight, seeing as your other arm still had the IV in. "When can we take this out?" You asked, nodding your head down at the tube hooked into your vein.

The nurse opened the back of your hospital gown while you held the front in place to keep from flashing everyone in the room, and she checked and listened to your breathing. "Give it another day or two. When we take it out that's when you can start eating solid foods again."

"Aww!!" You whined. "I miss food." She chuckled before she began checking various other basic things like your heart rate, blood pressure, dilation of eyes, etc.

"So... Not to bring up bad memories here, but, any word about the whole triple V thing?" Angel wondered, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. "Not that I'm complaining about the week off I've had from working at the studio."

You shrugged. "Your guess is as good as mine. I think Al was the last to see him, last time I saw him I was waking up on a silver table in a drug-induced haze; that was quite a few hours before you found me."

Vaggie went wide eyed and stared blankly at the floor, shaking her head in dismay at the idea of what you endured.

"Last I heard Lucifer was dealing with them, he wouldn't go into details but confirmed he couldn't erase or banish them on these merits." Alastor explained, his smile thinning in irritation- wishing they could just be wiped from existence but understanding why that couldn't happen.

"You remember what happened?" The nurse asked, closing up your gown and adjusting the bed so you could lean back and still be sitting up. You nodded.

"My arrival is fuzzy to me... Like I said I remember waking up on a table, it was him, Vox and Shane standing around me having a conversation about me like I wasn't even in the room. I remember trying to teleport out of there but Vox shocked me when he noticed. Next thing I know, I'm in a dirty room waiting for the next surge; or for someone to walk into the room, whichever came first." You explained rather numbly. At the core of your being you were indeed upset and distraught, but you were still somewhat in mental shock from the trauma- it almost hadn't really set in yet.

You watched as the nurse jotted a few things down before looking up at you. "And, what is the last thing you remember there?"

"An unwanted guest paying a visit and droning on in a 'bad guy speech'. Then getting shocked again. After that, it's just a dreamlike blur. I remember hearing some of your conversations around me, but, that must've been after the rescue."

Charlie's brows raised slightly, and you noticed in your peripheral Al's ears dropped ever so slightly for a moment. "You could hear us?"

"I think so? That or my brain made it up... in my head the scenery was definitely different than a hospital room, and I remember vividly responding to everyone... but, I guess I wasn't really responding, huh?" You huffed softly.
