When there is joy, there is also sorrow in life and in these pages that you are probably reading will show you why I made the choices that I made. I am sorry that I put you through this Ash and every thing that I did to you. I hope you can understand why I did this and the reason is, I had to save the people. I had no choice but to do this for you and everyone else in this world. I do hope you do take my word of advice and beware of your grandmother. She is known as the spook of death in many towns and has earned this name for a very good reason. I do hope you read this some day and when you are ready, you shall  find out what secrets are healed in this diary of mine. There are claws that it holds for you and you alone. Love you Ash, sincerely Sara J. Fire.

Sara put her small feather pen down onto the medium sized, wooden desk. She slowly stood up from the wooden chair with a small cushion on the seat and went over to the  front door. Her black hair and the white dress that she wore waved in the air as she walked towards the door with a steady stride. There was a small knocking sound like someone was knocking on the door that Sara stood at. Sara opened the door slightly to see who waa outside the door, there was a disgusted look came across her face for a moment. She stood in the doorway in shock as she saw one of her friends standing a few inches from her, he was drenched with water. The crackling sound of thunder  filled the dark skies rain poured down to the ground, turning the dry dirt into mud. Sara’s  friend stood under the protection of the house as water dripped from his saggy wet clothes.

“Well there goes my leather coat and jeans. Are you going to invite me in?” Said Saras friend.

Sara said in a surprised voice “Hi Matt, I didn’t expect you to come over. I thought that… Well thanks for coming.”

“Hi Sara, I am sorry about Jim, he was a good person. I made a promise to protect Ash for as long as I live.” Said Jim as he stood outside.

Sara slowly opened the front door all the way and stepped aside to let Matt into the small cabin that she lived in. Once Matt was inside the cabin, Sara closed the door behind him and they quickly walked over to the soft couches with soft, fluffy cushions. Matt watched Sara sit on one of the coues, he then sat on the other couche that sat across from her and waited silently for Sara to speak. Silence filled the air as they sat in silence, the both waited for someone or something to break the silence. Suddenly, there was a loud creaking sound like someone was opening a door with rusted hinges. Sara and Matt looked towards where the sound was coming from, they saw a little girl in a pink nightgown standing in the small, thin hallway. Her greasy, blach hair waved left and right as she swayed to each side like she was on a moving boat.

She asked with joy and a hint of drowsiness in her voice as she rubbed her eyes in exhaustion, “Uncle Matt?”

“Hey Ash, come and give your uncle a hug.” said Matt as he held out his long, thin arms for an embrace.

Ash quickly ran over to Matt and leaped into his arms, he quickly hugged her with delight, happiness filled him for the longest moment. He then looked at Sara with anger and hatred in his eyes as he released Ash from his tight embrace and Ash took a few steps away from Matt. Sara’s gase struck him like a lightning bolt as she watched them intently and anger filled her as she looked over at Ash.

“It is past your bedtime, go to bed now.” Sara said with a hint of anger in her voice.

Fear filled Ash as she said “Yes mom.”

She then ran back to her bedroom without a word and went back to her worm, cozy bed with medium sized quilts on the bed.

Sara demanded in a blank stair, “So, I doubt you came here because of me so tell me what you want.”

Matt replied “You know what they are going to do to you and Ash right? My god Sara, you killed a man in cold blood by a forbidden spell nonetheless.”

Sara quickly snapped at him and yelled “Well what else could I do Matt? He has killed hundreds of people because he wanted to and burned my husband, Your brother to Ashes like he was a witch. So tell me what else would you have me do?”

“I wouldn’t have had you kill the guy Sara, You put yourself and Ash at risk.” Matt yelled back.

There was a long moment of silence as Sara and Matt sat in silence, they didn’t even look at each other or make eye contact. The sound of trees rustling in the wind could be heard through the cabin walls as time passed by. It felt like minutes were second as they waited for someone to speak but they were too mad at each other to say anything.

Matt suddenly broke the silence when he said in anger, “Ok Sara, ok. Here is what I am going to do and you can't stop me. I am going to take Ash and give her a better life than this because the life you are giving her right now isn’t even a life at all.”

Sara sat silently with her arms folded against her chest as tears streamed down her face like a small river going down a hill. Matt quickly got up from the couch and went to Ash’s room, he walked over to Ash’s closest to pull out a bag. Ash watches as he opens the closet door and pulls out two suitcases and a large bag from the top shelf. She rubbed her groggy eyes from exhaustion as he packed some clothes, books, stuffed animals and other items into the two suitcases and the bag. She heard a zipping sound as he zipped up the bag and suitcases. The room was pitch black and Ash couldn’t see a thing as she looked into the darkness as she stopped rubbing her groggy eyes.

Ash said nervously, “Mom? I was asleep, I swear… P-please don’t lock me in the basement this time. I will be a good girl, I promise.” Tears were streaming down her face as she sat up in the darkness.

Matt said in a sad and silent whispered voice as he went up to Ash, he hugged her “It's ok Ash. Everything is going to be alright. Your mother won’t hurt you ever again because I am going to take care of you. I promise you that I will protect you until the day I die.”
