Dragon's curse

Chapter five

I fell asleep last night but it is hard to sleep when people are screaming for their lives at night. There were people cheating too but I don't know why but those aren't the only noises that I have heard. I got some sleep though but not much.

Ash slowly woke up to the sounds of cheating and a person screaming for their life, she couldn’t help but wonder what was going on.

Ash asked “Jack? Are you there?”

There was no response at first, after a few minutes a deep voice echoed down the hallway saying “He is in the arena right now, he will be back soon.”

Ash said “Thank you.”

Three hours later, Jack walked past Ash’s cell door with blood splattered over his face, he slowly went into his cell and sat against one of the walls. He stayed silent for the longest moment as the guard quickly walked away in the opposite direction.

Jack then said a few hours later, “Ash.”

Ash said “I am her.”

He then continued “I promise that I will protect you no matter what happens. I will take care of you, I promise.”

Suddenly, there was a buzzing sound like an alarm  that was going off for only a moment but stopped as soon as it started. Both Jack and Ash got up from the dirty ground, confusion filled Ash as she waited for something to happen. There were small granite pebbles surrounding the floor and small cockroaches scouring the corners of the rooms. Ash looked around as there was a beeping sound for a second and all the doors opened automatically with the iron doors disappearing into the floor in an instant. One by one, people excited their cells and stretched their arms while feeling cramped up from sitting on the ground for two weeks. Ash stayed in her cell in fear while Jack walked out of his cell and walked over to the doorway of Ash’s cell.

He smiled as he said “It's ok Ash, just stay close to me and no one will do a thing to you. You will be safe, I promise.”

Ash in a nervous voice asked “Ok… Can I ask you something that may be a little weird?”

Jack replied “What is it you want to ask me and It does not matter if it is weird?” 

Ash asked in a shy voice, “Can I um… Can I hold the back of your shit so we don’t get separated?”

“You can do that if you want Ash, I don't mind if you do that.” Jack said as he waited for Ash to come out of her Cell.

Ash slowly walked out of her cell and grabbed onto Jack's dirt, white shirt filled with tears and scratches. They slowly walked through the narrow hallway filled with other prisoners that were heading towards the same direction. After walking through the hallway for thirty minutes, they reached a large room filled with carved out stone tables and seats. There were wooden plates and cups, mettil silverware laid next to them neatly like they were in a fancy restaurant. Jack and Ash quickly went to the middle of the third stone table that sat in the middle of the room, there was a person on each side as the room filled up by the second. Ash released her grip from Jack's shirt and looked around nervously at the people in the room in fear of what they would do to a little girl like her.

The man sitting next to Ash asked “What's your name kid?”

Ash looked at the man sitting next to her and saw that he was a few inches taller than Jack with slightly big muscles that filled his arms, making him look even bigger than he really was. His skin was a light tan color, there were knives sticking out of his elbows and kneecaps like they were knife holsters. Ash shivered at the sight of him for a moment and jumped immediately as the same buzzard as the last time went off for a second. 

Jack quickly said in an annoyed voice “She is a little girl and is not on your list of people to shock to death so you don't even know her name.”

Ash asked “Why do you want to know my name?”

The man replied, “I would like to know your name so I can see if you are on my kill list or not.”

“My name is Ash ” Ash said a robot covered in dirt and grime came by them.

As the robot walked by it put food onto the plate sitting in front of her. There was a steak and carrots sitting on her plate as she wondered why they would give them rear meat that is hard to get, let alone feed them at all.

The man then asked with a surprised look, “Wait a minute. Ash  as in the daughter of Sara ?”

Ash nodded her head Yes and the man continued “You are not on my list kid so I will tell you my name. My name is Electro. Do you know your friend's name by any chance?”

“His name is Jack, why?” Ash asked in confusion.

Jack immediately said “You better eat your food before it gets cold Ash.”

Electro then aske “Do you know what he is?”

Jack snapped and yelled “That's enough!”

Everyone immediately looked at Jack and Electro, they then went back to what they were doing without saying a word.

Electro smiled even more as he said “Ok Jack. You better drink before you lose control.”

Jack sighed as he drank a red subsistence out of his cup while Ash ate her food slowly. Ash took one more bite of her steak and then stopped instantly. Jack and Electro while they stopped eating, they stared at each other for a moment.

Jack asked “Ash, Are you ok?”

Ash said in a shaky voice “Blood.”

Electro asked in confusion “What was that?”

She immediately said once more, “Blood.”

Tears streamed down her face as she pushed the plate away from her as she remembered how she ended up where she was at that moment. 

Electro quickly got up from his seat and said “Come with me Ash, you can do it in my room.”

Ash nodded as she slowly got up from her seat and followed Electro to his cell. She then sat down onto the ground and immediately started crying, even more tears streamed down her face instantly as she pulled her legs up to her chest. Electro sat next to Ash with open arms and healed to his side with one arm. Ash looked at him and leaned against Electro as she wiped her teary eyes. 

Electro asked “You seemed surprised about something, what is it that surprised you?”

Ash replied with a slight sniff to clear her nose, “I am just surprised that I ain't getting shocked like Jack mentioned. I mean you can shock people to death right?”

He replied while smiling “First, I can produce energy through knives that are in my knees and elbows when I take them out. Second, I only shock people to death if they are on my list and the ones that I get paid to kill but there are some that I will leave to fight me another day so they can get stronger so I have a challenge, plus it gives them a chance to fight.”

Ash said “I am ok now.”

Suddenly, Jack came into the cell and said with a hint of concern in his voice, “Are you alright Ash? Some of the other people in the lunchroom were wondering if you are alright.”

Ash said in confusion “Others, I thought only you two care about me.”

“It seems like there are others that care about you. That's a good thing. That means that you will have more people to protect you and take care of you too.” Electro said with a sigh of relief.

Ash smiled back as she asked “Like a real family?”
