Derek and Meredith came into the kitchen from the garage laughing. They had the best day together. Derek reached for Meredith and grabbed her around the waist and sat her on the kitchen counter.

Meredith giggled and asked, "Derek! What are you doing?"

Derek got some water bottles out of the refrigerator and handed her one. He said, "You look good sitting on the counter. I remember the first time Mark and I came over her to look at your house. I came up from the basement and you were on the counter."

She replied, "You remember that? I remember your naked chest in my face."

Derek winked and said, "Yeah. I did that on purpose. I wanted you to get to know me."

She laughed and said, "Oh I know you!"

Derek asked, "What do you want to do about dinner?"

Meredith said, "I'm not hungry after our late lunch. It was huge. Maybe cheese and crackers later?"

Derek laughed and said, "I can't believe you ate lazy man's lobster from Maine when you are in the great state of Washington."

Meredith pouted and said defensively, "It's fish."

He laughed and said, "No Mer. It's not fish. Fish is what I had. Fresh omega three oil healthy salmon. Lobster is a crustacean what roams the bottom of the ocean eating crap."

Meredith said seductively, "You didn't seem to have a problem with the lemon butter you sucked off my lips."

Derek said just as seductively back, "Um...well baby. Your lips were dripping."

Meredith giggled and admitted, "They were."

Derek's eyes darkened with lust as he remembered sucking on her plump lips. He ran one thumb over them.

Meredith sighed and said, "I think I fell in love today."

Derek looked shocked.[i] He had wanted to say it first to her. Was she saying she loved him? She spooked easy and he was afraid. They had gone walking in the Bloedel Reserve and he had wanted to say it, but felt she might run into the woods and get lost. Then when he helped her down from the horse, he had wanted to say it. But he felt she might jump back on the horse and bolt. Then he wanted to say it on the ferry ride back, but felt she might jump in the bay.[/i] He racked his hand through his hair and was speechless.

Meredith rambled on, "He was so adorable wasn't he? I love dogs. I've always wanted a dog, but my mother would never let me have one. And now I know I'm too busy to properly care for one, but he was...oh I don't know. Special I guess. I just wanted take him home with us."

Derek let out the breath he was holding. [i]She was talking about the dog they had met on one of the trails. They had been walking peacefully holding hands and smiling at each other enjoying the quiet after the week of chaos at the hospital. A huge dog had run out of nowhere and practically knocked Meredith down. Derek had steadied her and the dog practically wrapped his paws around her legs. An older man came around a bend and apologized profusely for his big ill behaved shaggy dog named Doc.[/i] Derek smiled. [i]He was a special dog and they had felt an immediate bond.[/i]

He stepped in-between her legs and absently played with her hair.

Derek said, "I think I fell in love with that dog today too. We can't have one now, but maybe in a few years when we have a better schedule."

Meredith lit up and said, "Really!"

Derek said, "Really."

Meredith took Derek's hand from her hair and kissed his fingertips gently. She looked up at him through dark lashes.

Derek said reverently, "Meredith. I wanted it to be special. A romantic restaurant or a special setting with the sun going down. All day I have been trying to say...What I wanted to say was... But now all I can say is that....I'm in love with you. I've been in love with you for....ever."

Meredith's eyes opened wider and her pulse raced.[i] Derek was rambling! And he was saying he loved her![/i]

Meredith said, "I...."

Derek puts his finger on her lips and says, "It's okay. You don't have to say it back. I don't want to rush you into this before you're ready. Take all the time you need. I...."

Meredith interrupts him and says softy, "I love you too Derek. I've been in love with you for ... awhile."

Derek smiles and his eyes twinkle at her. [i]He knows how hard that was for her to admit considering her trust and abandonment and intimacy issues. He just stares into her sparkling green eyes and see's her love.[/i] He puts his hands on either side of her face and kisses her hard. Her hands go to the curls at the back of his neck and she moans into his mouth. She wraps her legs around his waist and says seductively, "Derek. Take me for a ride."

Derek picks her up off the counter with her legs entwined around his waist and heads upstairs where he plans on cherishing and lavishing her body with all the love he has.
