Derek was in line getting coffee when he spotted Meredith running into the hospital.[i] She had gone to the nursing home to visit Ellis the night before and it had not gone well. Meredith had tossed and turned through out the night. Dr. Bailey was kicking their asses and all they had been doing was sleeping and working. And now, not even sleeping very well.[/i]

This morning she wanted to check on her mom and they had driven separately as she had insisted he didn't need to go with her.

He scowled as a group of male residents and attendings watched her ass as she ran into the lobby. He thought, [i]what the fuck were they looking at?[/i]

He met her in the lobby and gave her the coffee.

"Oh God Derek. Thanks. I need this."

"How'd it go this morning?"

They walked swiftly towards the locker room. She said, "Well no need to worry about her not eating again. The Chief was there. With baked goods from Isobels. She saw me and said,[i] Meredith. Not now. Can't you see I'm busy with a colleague. Get yourself ready for school.[/i] She was laughing and discussing surgery with him."

"Oh Mer. I am so sorry."

With a big sigh Meredith spat, "It's just the way it is. You'd think I'd be used to it by now. I left immediately so she could spend time with the person she wanted to."

They had reached the locker room and Derek looked around.[i] He wanted to give her a hug, but knew there were too many people around.[/i] He smiled and looked into her pain filled eyes, "Well, you have seen her twice in two days. Tomorrow we are both off and it's just us okay?"

"Okay."

"Mer. Your mom..."

She interrupted him and said, "I don't want to talk about it anymore."

Meredith gave him a sad fake smile and went into the locker room. She went into the restroom to change clothes as he leaned against her locker. He thought to himself,[i] please don't push me away Meredith.[/i] She came out dressed in her scrubs and finished the coffee.

Derek said, "Don't look now, but it's back." Addison walked into the locker room.

Meredith glanced over at Addison and laughed with Derek.

Addison slunk into the locker room after being suspended for three days. [i]She was on probation for the rest of the year and was scared. There was a true possibility that she wouldn't make it. No one said anything to her like she was poison or something.[/i] She glanced over at Derek.[i] He was actually playing with Grey's hair out in the open and she was giggling! Ugh. Those two made her physically sick.[/i]

Burke, Cristina, and Mark came in just before Dr. Bailey. No one said anything to Addison. Dr. Bailey came in and started giving out the assignments. When she was finished, the locker room door opened and the Chief said loudly, "Dr. Bailey. Dead baby bike race. You know what to do!"

Dr. Bailey spun around and said, "I am on it." [i]She wasn't there for previous race days, but she had been thoroughly briefed and knew what to expect.[/i] She left the locker room at a run and her interns all ran after her. News had spread and the hospital was on high alert.

As they were running to the pit, Burke asked Cristina, "Do you know what dead baby bike race is?"

She replied as she tied back her hair, "Nope. But I bet there is lots of blood and surgery. I need a surgery so bad!"

Mark says happily, "It sounds like lots of plastic surgery to me!"

Meredith shuttered, "I hope there are no dead babies."
