Meredith and Cristina jumped out of their cars when Derek and Mark pulled up along side. They saw Burke walking quickly from another parking spot.

Derek said quickly, "So you got the text from Hanson?"

Meredith said, "Yeah. It's time."

Cristina said, "I can't believe this is our last day as interns."

Burke said, "Thank God for that!"

Meredith said, "I hope everyone passed."

Mark snorted, "No one here is going to be a repeater. Let's go!"

All of them lightly jogged into the hospital in excitement. There were people waiting for the elevators so they all ran up the stairs to the surgical floor. As they walked towards the locker room, they saw a few dejected interns leaving with their personal belongings. Meredith hung back and spoke with a few of them and offered her sympathy and encouragement while the others went ahead.

Meredith walked into the locker room a moment later and looked around. Derek, Mark, Cris and Preston were smiling at the papers in their hands.[i] She was glad. They must have all passed.[/i]

Meredith went over to Derek and he showed her his test result. She gave him her most brilliant smile.

Burke said arrogantly, "I only missed five! Five out of five hundred questions!"

Mark said proudly, "Sucks to be you then. I only missed four!"

Cristina said, "Five....and four! Losers! I only missed three!"

Burke looked incredulously at her. He stuttered, "Three?"[i] She had beaten him?[/i]

Meredith said proudly, "Derek only missed three too."

Cristina looked at Shepherd and sighed, "We fucking tied?"

Patricia came around the corner and said, "There you are Dr. Grey. Here you go." She handed Meredith an envelope and walked over to the other side of the room handing out more results. Meredith tore it open and handed it to Derek.

"You look. I can't. Just tell me I passed."

Derek looked and then smiled brightly and cocked his head. "Not only did you pass, you only missed two!" He swept her up in a tight hug.

Cristina stood there with her mouth open for a moment.[i] Oh well [/i]she thought. [i]If someone had to beat her, she was glad it was Mer. One question. That's what it came down to.[/i] She shook her head.

[i]Burke couldn't believe it. Out of their group he was last? Two girls had better scores?[/i]

[i]Mark was thrilled. He had had to buckle down this year and curtail some of his extracurricular activities, but it was so worth it.[/i]

[i]Derek was ecstatic for Meredith. She so deserved this.[/i]

[i]Meredith was stunned and just let it sink it. [/i]

Dr. Bailey swept into the locker room and looked around.

"Why aren't you changed yet? It may be your last day as interns, but there will be no slacking off."

Derek said, "We were just having a moment. We just got our test results back."

Miranda softened a little. "I am so proud of each and every one of you. You all did great. The Chief is very impressed. Grey! Is that anatomy Jane?"

[i]Meredith had brought the doll to show Cristina[/i] and said hesitantly, "Um....Yes."

Miranda snorted and said, "You are hanging with me today. Inoperable tumor." She quickly gave out the rest of the assignments.
