Meredith woke up the next day and stretched. Derek had already left for work but not before he had finished what he started last night. When she had gotten home he had dinner waiting for her and then made long leisurely love to her telling her over and over again how much he loved her. And this morning he had pleasured her with his tongue until she cried out repeatedly. Once he was in the shower, she had planned on joining him, but she fell back asleep spent from his wicked administrations.
She glanced at the clock and knew she would have to hustle. She had an appointment to get her hair cut and she would just make it. After that, she had a dental appointment to get her teeth cleaned. She tried to get all her appointments in the same day to be more productive. After that she would go to the nursing home. No more avoiding Meredith thought as she went into the shower.

Meredith walked into the nursing home and glanced in the room with the fireplace. That is where her mother liked to spend her days at the round table.
She hesitantly walked up and said softy, "Hi mom."
Ellis glanced up and said nastily, "I'm busy here. I have charts to study and surgeries to prepare for."
Meredith sat across from her and didn't say anything.
After ten minutes Ellis glanced up surprised that she was still there. "Look. I don't have time to coddle you right now. I am trying to save lives here. Do you understand? Do you?"
Meredith said softy, "Sure. I understand."
Ellis frowned at her and went back to her reading. A short time later she glanced up and asked, "What did you do to your hair?"
Surprised that she noticed Meredith replied, "I just got a little trim."
Ellis nodded and said, "Your split ends were getting bad. You should take better care of your hair. Have the nanny take you more often."
Meredith nodded and said, "Sure."
Ellis stacked her papers into a neat pile and asked, "You seem distracted Meredith. Not focused at all. How is the homework going? I don't have time to check it today."
Meredith said a little sarcastically, "I'm sure you don't."
Ellis crossed her arms around her chest and said, "I don't have time for your sarcasm today. I have surgeries back to back. You are not fooling around with boys Meredith? I won't allow it! You need to study harder to get into Dartmouth or Harvard."
Meredith said softy, "I graduated mom from Harvard and I have a boyfriend. I'm happy now. I feel like I know who I am plus I think when you have someone in your life that you love, you really love, I think that's...I don't know I just...I'm really happy.
Ellis asked outraged, "What happened to you?"
Confused Meredith asked, "What do you mean?"
Ellis says, "You're happy? You're happy now? The Meredith I knew was a force of nature. Passionate. Focused and a fighter. What happened to you? You've gone soft. Stammering about a boyfriend? I forbid you to see boys!"
Meredith sighed and said, "Mom."
Ellis said as she stood up. "Meredith. Listen to me. Anyone can fall in love and be blindly happy. But not everyone can pick up a scalpel and save a life. I raised you to be an extraordinary human being. So imagine my disappointment when I don't see you for awhile because I am saving lives and you are no more than ordinary! What happened to you?"
