The following week the interns were in the locker room getting ready. Derek and Meredith had spent time together at work and also at home but never alone. They went to Joe's for drinks as a group and dinner at home usually included Yang and sometimes Burke and always Mark. [i] Derek was getting frustrated that Yang was spending an extraordinary amount of time with Meredith. [/i]

Derek was putting on his lab coat and asked Burke, "Preston. What is up with you and Yang? At dinner last night, you guys literally did not say a word to each other."

Burke replied, "She's not like a normal woman."

Mark snickered and asked "You are just now figuring that out?"

"Yeah." Burke slammed his locker and sat on the bench to tie his shoes.

Derek sat down and asked softy so the girls couldn't hear across the way, "Maybe you should spend more time together. Alone. You know. Like go out on a date or a movie."

Mark leaned up against the locker and laughed, "Sure Derek. You just want Yang out of your hair."

Derek glared at Mark and told Burke, "Girls like that stuff."

Burke replied "Yang is not girly girl. And the no talking thing. It actually works for me just fine. More women should be seen and not heard."

Derek stood up and said, "Whoa. You did not just say that."

Mark laughed at said, "And I'll bet you a hundred bucks that he won't repeat that in front of the girls."

Burke stood up and said, "I'm not stupid."

Derek and Mark shared a look and rolled their eyes at this newly exposed side of Preston Burke.

Meredith whispered to Cristina, "Cris; Come on. How long has the no talking thing been going on?"

Cristina pulled her hair back into a tight ponytail and said, "For awhile. It doesn't bother me. I don't know why it bothers you."

Meredith shut her locker and pulled her hair back into a tight ponytail. "You don't think that is a little weird?"

"Maybe it's better this way. I mean I get the sex, but don't have to listen to him babble on and on."

"You still are having sex with him? And you don't talk? Not one word?" Meredith was astounded.

Cristina shrugged her shoulders and said, "It works for us."

Addison walked in already in scrubs. She ignored Grey and Yang and said, "Hello sexy men. Don't you look scrumptious today?"

Derek, Mark and Preston all gave her a WTF look. She really was dim.

The residents came in and started barking out assignments until the six of them were the only ones left in the locker room.

Addison put on her lab coat and leaned over and shook her ass at the guys as she shook her hair out. She then stood up and fluffed it into a big halo around her head.

"He's usually not late. Where do you think DePalma is?" asked Meredith.

Cristina eyed Addison suspiciously and said, "Any ides Montgomery?"

Addison slammed her locker shut and said, "I have no idea."

The locker door opened and Bailey walked in.

The six of them unconsciously straighten up and lined up a little.

Bailey smiled a little evilly and said, "Good. Glad to see you are ready to go. Change in the line up today folks. Dr. DePalma has decided to take a six month leave of absence effective immediately."

Addison gasped and the others all looked surprised.

"And what that means to you is now, in addition to my responsibilities of Chief Resident, you are all my suck ups now for the rest of the year. From here on out, things will change. You all will be under my microscope. There will be a posted rotation of specialties you will follow. They will be no swaps or switching of assignments. The goal is to be well rounded in ALL the specialties. No begging the attendings for neuro or plastics or cardio. You go where I assign you and you stay there."

Meredith and Derek looked at each other as did Yang and Burke. They had frequently swapped to get to neruo and cardio respectively. Mark thought[i] about all the plastic surgeries he was going to miss out on.[/i]

"You don't eat lunch in old guy's room. He is a patient and you respect that. You use the on call rooms for sleeping only and the door had better NEVER be locked." Addison blushed bright red and Burke and Yang looked sideways at each other. Mark smiled at Bailey and then frowned when she raised an eyebrow at him.

[i]Well fuck [/i]thought Mark. [i]At least he always locked the door and never had actually gotten caught.[/i]

"I will review each and every chart you touch and nobody leaves this hospital without checking with me first."

"Any questions?"

Everyone shook their head no.

"Good. So today, Grey you are in plastics. Check with the resident in the burn unit."

"Sloan; you are in peds. Check with the resident on the Londari case. It's probably not surgical, but they are requesting one. You might just be monitoring a 6 year old all day."

"Yang; you are in gynie. There is a woman having a natural birth this morning. Her previous children took 10 hours plus of labor. Check with Nurse Debbie on maternity."

"Burke; you are in dermatology. You would not believe some of the things they catch."

"Shepherd; you are in ortho. You get to set bones today."

Bailey looked at their horrified faces.[i] She knew they were all going to the places they hated or didn't have much experience with. They needed out of their comfort zones.[/i]

Addison asked, "What about me?"

"Well Montgomery: since you seem to have the most surgical experience under you belt, you are hanging with me today. I have multiple surgeries scheduled. So let's see what you got."

"Okay." Said Addison shakily.

Bailey started to walk out of the room with Addison behind her. She stopped suddenly.

"What?" asked Addison.

Bailey said, "This is a hospital. Not a nightclub. Get your hair out of your face."

Addison said nervously, "I don't have anything to tie it back with."

Bailey looked at Grey and Yang and asked, "Help a girl out?"

Cristina and Meredith looked at Bailey with respect and spun around and opened their lockers. Cristina came up first with a hideous bright orange scrunchie that clashed with Addison's hair.

Crisitna held out the grotesque thing to Addison and Addison looked at it with horror.

She hissed, "I know you have tons of others in different colors or clips.

Cristina slammed her locker shut and said sweetly, "Sorry."

Addison grabbed it and said under her breath, "Thanks so much!"

"Anytime." Replied Cristina.

Bailey rubbed her hands together and said, "This is going to be such a fun day. Let's go."

They all looked at each other and grimaced and followed after Bailey to their assignments.
