Chapter 20

Back at the ranch, Matt called all the guys and they scrambled to get the stall ready as well as all the needed supplies for the foal, everyone else, of course, saw what was going on and quickly ran over to the barn.

"Matt, what's going on?" Tony was the first to ask.

"Hope called, she said that she is on her way back with a newborn foal that's lost its mother and we need to get everything ready for when she gets here," Matt explained to Tony.

"Okay, do you guys need help with anything?" Tony asked Matt.

"No sir, we have everything handled," Matt said.

Not even 10 minutes later everyone saw Hope's truck come barreling in stopping at the barn's entrance, she jumped out of the cab without a word and ran to the back seat, carefully she took out the little foal from the back seat.

"Where to?" Hope asked Matt.

Everyone but the guys were shocked to see Hope's eyes void of emotions, the guys understood that this was Hope's way of concentrating on the task at hand.

"It's the stall in the back of the barn where it will be quiet for the little one," Matt talk her and she simply nodded and walked inside.

Tony was a bit concerned seeing Hope like that, he looked at everyone, "I don't think I have ever seen her act like that before."

All the guys sighed and it was Matt who spoke, "Hope has only been like that when the rescue was very bad."

"What do you mean by that, like with the pony Shadowfax?" Nat asked.

All the guys shook their heads, "worse, way worse, and I wouldn't try and ask her about it right now because I'm sure she won't say much," Matt said, just then his phone went off.

Matt took it out and saw that it was a text from Hope.

"Scott will be here once he is done at the rescue site, let him know where I'm at once he gets here."

"Got it, do you need anything else in the meantime?"

"For now no, she's taking the bottle so that's a good sign."

"It's a little filly?"

"Yeah, you can let everyone know so we can come up with a name for her."

"Okay, let us know if you need anything."

"I will."

"Was that Hope?" Dylan asked.

"Yes, she said that we have a little filly," Matt said.

"What does that mean?" Sam asked.

"He means that the foal is female," Dylan answered.

"Yup, now we all have to come up with a name for her," Matt said.

"Aww," both Nat and Wanda said at the same time making everyone laugh.

"Do you think we can see her?" Wanda asked.

Before Matt could speak his phone went off again, and he checked it to find that Hope sent him a picture of the filly, he laughed and showed everyone the picture, and the girls awed again.

"It's best, for now, to leave Hope with the filly so she can get used to her and her new surroundings," Matt said

With that, all the Avengers dispersed and left to go do who knows what while Matt and the guys went to finish up with the chores that still needed to be finished. It was an hour later when Scott showed up, Matt saw him park in front of the barn and went to meet him.

"Hey Scott, Hope is in the back of the barn with the filly," Matt told him.

"Oh, the foal is a filly, how is she doing?" Scott asked.

"Hope said earlier that the filly took the bottle so at least she has eaten," Matt said.

"That's good," Scott walked to the back of his truck and took out his med case, quickly checking to make sure he had everything to do a check-up on the foal.

"Scott can I ask, what happened on this rescue, Hope came back just numb to emotions," Matt said with concern in his voice.

"It was horrible Matt, I don't think I had ever seen anything like today, I had gotten a call about some horses being abandoned at this ranch not far from here when I got there the place was completely abandoned for who knows how long but the worse was that whoever owned that place had beaten, basically tortured the animals there, three horses were dead including the foal's mother, it was a miracle that mare managed to even birth the foal even after how badly beaten she had been," Scott explained.

"Scott this isn't good, I feel like this is going to add more fuel to her nightmares," Matt whispered to Scott.

"Is she still having them?" Scott whispered back.

"She's hiding it well from everyone else, but for how long I have known her and since the incident, they've only gotten worse," Matt said.

"And she still hasn't told her parents or talked to a professional about it?" Scott asked.

"No, you know how stubborn she is," before Matt could say anything else, Hope walked out of the barn.

"Scott, you're here, were there any other animals?" Hope asked worriedly.

Scott smiled softly, "I did find two others but don't worry, I already checked them both out and even though they are both a bit underweight they are still pretty healthy, I went ahead and gave them their needed shots."

"Well, are you going to show me them or keep me in suspense?" Hope asked him.

"Look in the back seat while I finish getting what I need for the foal," Scott told her.

Hope walked over to Scott's truck and opened the back door, she gasped at what she saw, and Scott chuckled lightly as he walked over to her.

"They need a home, a much-needed bath, food, as well as names too, what do you think, can you take on two more?" Scott asked her.

"They are so adorable," Hope cooed as she cuddled a little snow-white kitten and pit bull puppy, "where did you find them?"

"The kitten was roaming near the barn while the puppy was by the house, we found no other litter mates for either so who knows where these two came from," Scott explained.

"Well, at least they were found in time and are in a new loving home here, ready to go check on the filly?" Hoped asked Scott.

"Lead the way," Scott said and followed after Hope who was still carrying the puppy and kitten.

A/N: Alpine has made her appearance but what shall we name the puppy it's male so give me ideas guys, as for the foal, I already have the name, ironically it came to me as I was writing this chapter.
