"But I don't get it. How come only that knife can kill demons?"
I already gathered my stuff from the car and neither Dean or Cas came back. So it was just me and Sam in the library and I was trying to fill up a journal entry. I make one about every new creature I encounter, but today I found out that demons can die, so I had to update the demon entry.
Sam shrugged. "We're not sure. Dean and I tried to recreate the knife with the sigils it has on it, but it never works. Dean thinks it's in the metal—the metal's from hell so it could kill things from hell."
"How'd you even get your hands on it?"
"Ruby." I raised my eyebrow.
"I thought you said you read the books."
"Too many names...too many chapters...I skimmed through...I did't really make it past book three...no offense." I gave him a grimace.
"None taken," he smiled. "Ruby was a demon."
"Oh. Okay." I flipped a new page. "Angels. How do you kill a winged bastard?"
"What are you doing?"
"I keep track of all the new supernatural things I have to kill. It gets really confusing what to bring. One time I brought iron on a werewolf hunt."
"And?"
"Well she continued running after me with a pole in her stomach anyway."
"You hunt alone?"
"I'm as strong as them," I shrugged. "And I know how to kill them. It's an unfair fight, really."
Sam nodded, thinking.
"So...angels."
"You know," he finally looked up at me. "This is exactly what the Men of Letters do. They keep track of things. Keep organized files."
"If you're trying to recruit me to your cult it's not working."
The whoosh of Cas's wings sounded behind us and it made the both of us turn immediately.
"So...what, she's an angel?"
Cas sighed, like he'd explained this a few times already. "No."
"Is she stronger than you?"
"Theoretically. She's supposed to be, but she can't use much of her powers yet."
Kevin finally caught sight of me. His eyes widened. "She's here?" he asked Cas.
"No," I shook my head. "Got caught up in some traffic, I'll be here shortly."
He looked harmless like Cas said he'd be. He also looked really uncomfortable.
"Kevin, this is Eliza. Heaven's Child."
"Heaven's legal adult, actually," I grinned, holding out my hand. He hesitantly took it.
"Kevin." He gave me a tight smile before taking his hand back and turning to Cas. "Where's Dean?"
"We buried him a while back cause he wouldn't stop talking about you," Sam joked, getting up to greet him. "Hey, man." He collected Kevin into a hug.
"How have you been?"
"Waiting for Crowley to slit my throat, you?"
"Same old, same old."
"Heard you were cured!" Kevin suddenly exclaimed, like he just remembered. His eyes were darting all over Sam as if he was making sure Sam was fully healed.
