It was a really slow week until Sam finally picked up a case a few states away. I was in my room, eager to pack and eager to finally get out of the bunker when Kevin walked in.
"Knock knock."
"Hey."
"Hey," he greeted lazily, flopping face down on my bed. "You'regoingonthehuntwiththem?"
"Huh?"
He raised his face from the pillow. "I said, you're going to go on the hunt with them?"
"No," I expressed theatrically. "Hernandez, I'm running away!"
But Kevin looked at me flatly and scolded, "Are you sure you want to go after last week?"
"What about last week?" I returned to my folding.
"You almost died from the transfer?"
"No I didn't," I snapped.
"Liz, I'm just looking out for you."
"Well I don't need you to! I don't need Dean to look out for me, I don't need Sam to look out for me, I don't need Sully to look out for me, and I certainly don't need Castiel to look out for me."
He glared at me and I stared back before I sighed.
"I didn't mean to yell."
"You know you've been avoiding Cas all week," he was playing with the water bottle in his hands.
"I'm not avoiding him."
"When he came yesterday, you trapped yourself in the kitchen and didn't stop cooking until he left."
"Dean wanted pie!" I returned defensively. "He fixed my truck that I didn't even know I messed up. A thank you just didn't seem enough. And you know I love that truck. She's a monster," I flashed him a grin. But he didn't take it.
"You made him four pies." He gave me a look.
"Dean's a good guy," I shrugged, not meeting his eyes. "He deserves all the pie he wants."
"Cas is a good guy too."
Without another word, I turned to finish packing. "Did you get any sleep?" I could tell he was debating on commenting on my change of topic, but thankfully he didn't.
"Uh, no." I heard the springs whine as he relaxed into the bed. "Every time I close my eyes I'm tied to a chair and he's torturing me." He yawned loudly.
"I'm so sorry Kev," I told him sincerely.
"I came here so you could cheer me up not so you could give me that face," he muttered.
"What face?" I crossed my eyes and glared at him.
He cringed immediately. "Oh my god, undo it! Undo it!"
I laughed to myself and walked around the bed to gather my other stuff from the night stand.
"I don't know why you bother unpacking," he commented, watching me fold my belongings.
"Because I'm not a lazy slob like yourself."
"That's true."
"You know," I started conversationally, neatly placing my clothes in my duffle. "I found that jumping rope helped me a lot when I couldn't sleep."
"Jumping rope?" he repeated.
"Mm-hm. I tried a thousand different ways to help me fall asleep and jumping rope was actually very effective."
