It led me straight to voicemail.
"Hey, Cas." I said. "It's me, Eliza. In case, of course, you somehow forgot how to read english." I muttered and rolled my eyes at myself.
"I know we're not exactly talking but I just..." I let out a shuddered breath. "I met an angel yesterday. By meet I meant he sobbed at my fight and the tried to kill me and then Sullivan killed him. But that's not the worst part. Sullivan's acting weird, Sam thinks it's because I'm in danger. I feel like he's right. I haven't been sleeping or eating...I just feel like something bad is going to happen. Who knows, maybe my gut feelings are more accurate than normal people. Anyway. Just...call me when you get this. I kind of need you here. And...stay safe. " I shut the phone and clenched my jaw to keep the tears in.
But then out of no where, a boy about my age jumped from beside the car parked to ours, sending my heart crashing through my ribs. It took a second look to realize it was Thomas. He was pacing around the Impala, looking for something on it.
"C-crap!" I breathed through my teeth, putting a hand on my chest. "What's wrong with you? What do you want?" There was definitely something wrong with me; my adrenaline was extra sensitive today.
"Alright, what is this?" he demanded, waving a hand at me.
I looked down to inspect myself. "My uniform?"
"No," he shook his head, raising his eyebrows. "No!" He took a step forward.
"Whoa, okay. Personal space." I shoved him, giving him with a threatening look. I was definitely not in the mood for this.
He bent around me around me anyway, barely allowing any space between us, and checked the plate number on the Impala.
He turned to me with a scowl. "I knew it." Then he looked away with a laugh, "I knew I wasn't seeing things." He turned to me with an accusatory look. "You were at my house yesterday."
I gave his chest a second shove and let out a short sarcastic laugh. "Trust me, I wasn't."
"Look, just cut the act, alright? I heard you. I heard the whole thing, I was sitting right there—" he pointed to the car parked right next to ours, "—on the floor doing some homework. And I heard the guy with the voice say keep an eye on Thomas and I happen to be the only Thomas in the school." He was yelling at me.
It took all of my self control not to shout back. "I'm sorry...this must all be very confusing for you."
He nodded sarcastically. "Yeah, just a little bit."
"I have a friend named Thomas, I don't even know who you are..." He closed his eyes and shook his head. "I've never even seen you before...Look, I have to get going."
"I also heard the bit about the vampires." He glared at something behind me. "I'm not even sure what that means, but I know it's probably nothing legal."
"I'm having a costume party..." I said slowly, like he was insane.
"Yeah? At the morgue?"
"That's what we call the office I work at. It's an inside joke." He was still shaking his head.
"You're lying. I also heard you talking about your self in a detached way, like you're..."
"I'm...?" I smirked.
"I don't know." He let out a frustrated breath. "Different, I guess."
I let out a snort. "Different? What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
"I am not insane!" he shouted. "There is something up with you and I know it!"
Again, I tried to ignore his yelling as much as I could. I composed myself and did my best to keep a straight face. "No, you're right. I am different. But I must keep my identity hidden or else my adversaries will find me."
