We followed Sam and the nurse in a fast walk while the nurse tagged each file in his hand with color coded stickers before placing them in the mailboxes in front of the patients' rooms.
"I don't think the two families knew each other; at least as far as the hospital knows. Their kids' rooms were in separate wards and they weren't even checked in in the same time periods. And no, there was nothing weird or odd about the way their children died." He was beginning to get frustrated with Sam.
"I understand, but are you sure there is no sort of link between the two families? Even something small like sharing a waiting room or—"
"Look, I'm really busy and I don't see how this is helping your case. I can't even answer the questions you're asking, yes, the completely average people could've known each other outside of the hospital. Is there anything else?"
Sam gave him a tight smile. "I understand. Thank you for your time."
"And patience," I muttered sarcastically. Dean elbowed me in the stomach.
The nurse nodded and left us standing in the hallway without another word. Sam sighed and started in the opposite direction.
"I don't even see why the spirit would go after these people. Both families had clean histories, they even went to church on Sundays—the worst part about them would be that they each had just one kid but still drove a minivan." Dean shuddered. "So far this case has shown us diddly squat to prove that this is our thing."
"Yeah, so far."
"Man, what are we doing here?" Dean stopped Sam.
"What?" Sam returned.
Dean sighed before answering. "You're just picking out random cases and dragging our asses out all over the place for no reason. I know you feel healthier and want to jump back in the game, but there is no game." He looked away. "You know, unless you're here for another reason. I saw your doodles on the map."
"I told you, I was just tracing demonic omens! What I said under the truth spell wasn't true!"
"It was the truth spell, Sam."
"It phrased me wrong!"
"Really? Because I call 'looking for Abaddon behind my back' looking for Abaddon behind my back."
"She's our responsibility!" Dean started waking again.
"One demonic son of a bitch at a time!"
"Dean, we let her out!"
"Yeah, trying to close the gates of hell forever! I mean how the hell were we supposed to know that she was a high level demon? Mistakes happen."
"I don't know if you realized, but our mistakes usually end up with pretty cosmic consequences."
"Name one," Dean rolled his eyes.
"The demon blood! Freeing Lucifer from hell! Freeing the Leviathan from purgatory! Casting the angels out!"
Dean gave him a flat glare. "I said one."
"Look, all I'm saying is that we're going to have to hunt her down sooner or later and the least we could do is mark her patterns because one day she's going to come back and bite us in the ass."
"I think the biggest threat here is the freak twins—"
"Hey," I mumbled from behind him.
"—we'll deal with Abaddon later."
