Two officers were stationed in front of my cell, there to watch me at all times. I glanced over the one standing stiffly, reading anxiousness in every line of his body; him shifting his feet, his haunched shoulders, his eyes flicking towards me constantly like I was a grenade ready to explode at his feet, unpredictable and inescapable.
"I'm in a sling and I lost a heavy amount of blood." I muttered when I caught him sizing me up for the third time in the same minute.
"Shut up," the second guard barked. This one stood in a stiff caricature of false confidence. It was obvious in the way he kept going in circles, making sure I was in full view of the large gun he was holding. With the plastic, stuck on smirk, he fooled no one. He was afraid too.
Which was convenient, because they had no reason to be afraid of me. Cas hasn't showed and there was no sign that he heard me. I had no way of contacting Sam and Dean, and if I try to bust out of the cell, the entire precinct was going to fire at me. There's a small chance that I would've survived that with a healthy body, and a microscopic chance with a compromised body.
So I just sat there; hoping Max successfully lured a pack of vampires and wolves out of town with my scent, and waiting for a brilliant plan to hit me.
"Hey, shouldn't I be allowed a phone call or something?"
The nervous cop spared me a glance before he looked away. His partner with the large gun left a minute ago when someone rushed in and called him.
"You can talk. The metal bars won't melt if we have a conversation."
"Rick won't let you," he finally muttered.
I rolled my eyes. It got quiet for a minute before I asked, "Hey what happened to all the other inmates? I mean this is a nice town, but zero crime rate is nearly impossible. You guys have to have at least one bad guy." He didn't answer.
"Oh." I realized. "Did...did they all die? Like how the kids in this town died?"
It made sense. If I were starting a pack to fight someone, I'd hit the jails first.
"Why wasn't this in the paper?" I gave him a flat look. "Did Rick the dick cover this up? That scumbag."
"Hey you should really mind your business and worry about yourself. The NYPD is pretty annoyed at you and it's on its way here."
"That was the longest you made eye contact with me. Very good." He rolled his eyes and looked away. "Hey...was there an inmate by the name Maximus Wells here?" No answer. "I promise if you answer me that I'll shut up."
He glared at me, measuring my face for a sec before he spoke, "Maya Wells. She was the one in here."
"Maya Wells? Who is that? Did she have a husband? Was Max her husband?"
"Step back." He said warningly. I put my good hand up immediately and took a step back.
"Please?" I raised my eyebrows.
He slowly put the gun down, "No. Maya was Max's sister."
"Um...was?"
"She killed him. He was the second one to disappear and we caught her trying to leave town. We took her in but she escaped. Then bodies started dropping after that. Now shut up and—"
A loud bang from outside cut him off. Our heads snapped to the source immediately. I strained to see past the hallway but I didn't have to see who it was to know whatever arrived wasn't human. Seconds later and more loud bangs sounded, followed by shouting and guns going off.
