Jada found Callie in her office the following afternoon. They had gone to bed late last night, with Callie getting paged at four. Jada had just woken up from her nap that she took early in the morning when she met Callie to get all the paperwork signed. Callie went back to work and Jada came home and took a very refreshing shower and nap. It was now two in the afternoon and Jada already felt like she was ready for dinner.
"Hey baby," Jada said quietly after knocking on Callie's door.
"Come in beautiful."
Jada opened the door to see Callie standing in front of the cabinets that kept all her paperwork for work and other random crap. "It's a door closed kinda day?"
"I was playing music earlier and I didn't want to wake you up."
Jada smiled. "I love you Calliope."
"I love you too."
"What are you doing?" Jada asked curiously as she sat down on the chair across from Callie's desk.
"Just sorting everything and putting it away from earlier."
"I'm really sorry about yesterday," Jada confessed.
Callie turned back to her paperwork. "It's not a big deal anymore Jada. It's done and over with. I was wrong and I'm glad you brought it to my attention and I'm glad we could come to an agreement."
"Callie, I know you're upset. I know you were just trying to keep it together yesterday."
She glanced quickly over at her fiancée. "It's over sweetheart. I don't really want to talk about it anymore."
Jada stood back up and came to stand in front of her. "Well, I do."
"Jada, really it's okay-"
"It's not Callie and you know it."
"Babe, I don't want to fight with you."
"And I don't want to fight with you either," Jada admitted. "I was way out of line yesterday. And I know you're upset about it. I took it way too far and said some things that I shouldn't of even thought of saying. And I just want to say I'm sorry. I'm sorry for letting my emotions get the best of me. And I'm sorry for even making you think I would doubt our relationship and walk out on you like that."
"Thank you Jada."
She offered a small smile. "I'll do whatever you want me to so I can make it up to you."
"You don't need to make anything up to me," Callie deflected. "It's done and over with. Yeah it was a pretty shitty first fight, but we're going to disagree a lot more in the coming years. But we worked through it, and that's all that matters."
"Okay. Still though, I'm sorry for what I said yesterday."
"Jada!" Callie hissed and both women couldn't help themselves from laughing at the way it came out of her mouth.
"What else is up?" Callie asked after they both calmed down from the laughter.
"What do you mean? I just really felt bad for not apologizing for everything I said yesterday."
"You want to talk to me about something else," Callie said. "And I'm not reading your mind, I can sense it in your body language."
"You can talk to me Jada."
"I had a nightmare last night," Jada let out.
Callie put the final folder away and came to her. "What happened?"
"You were on a mission. And you died, and you didn't come back to me like you promised," she was rambling now as the tears began to fall down her cheeks.
"Hey," Callie whispered as she took her hand and let her to the living room where she pulled Jada down onto her lap. "I'm right here, and I'm not going anywhere."
"I know," Jada answered as she wiped the tears from her cheeks. "I'm just so in love with you, I don't think I could live anymore if you never came back to me."
"I will come back to you. I promise-"
Jada hugged her. "I know you promised. But I can't get it out of my head now. What if you can't come back to me?"
Callie pulled her in for an even tighter hug. "Sweetheart, has this been bugging you for a while?"
Jada just looked at her. She knew. She had to know. Callie continued, "you don't look at me the same when we talk about Lynx anymore. You get this look in your eyes, whenever I put on the suit, anything really that has to do with Lynx."
"Baby, that's not at all what I mean."
"But you want it," Callie said softly.
"Baby, I can't ask you to do that."
Callie smiled softly. "I know you don't want me to be Lynx anymore."
Jada looked deep into her fiancée's brown eyes. "Why don't you seem pissed? Or mad? Or something?"
Callie took her hands in hers. "I've been getting this vibe from you for a little while now. And I've been thinking about it myself since I started feeling that from you."
"Calliope, you are not giving up Lynx because of me."
"Jada?" she questioned quietly. "What would you do if you were me?"
Jada simply answered Callie by making soft eye contact with her. They both knew what the answer to that question was and neither of them needed to say it. Jada just felt awful as she looked into those beautiful brown eyes that were now only full of caring, compassion, and love.
"I've thought about this since before I met you," Callie explained. "What I would do if I ever settled down with the love of my life and I was still Lynx."
"Callie please," Jada protested as tears began to trickle down her face. "I already hurt you enough, I can't do this to you."
"You're not doing anything to me Jada. I can't imagine how I would feel watching you go risk your life for others while I just stood there and got stuck with the anxiety of hoping you would make it back to me safely."
Callie reached behind her neck and unclipped the necklace. She took Jada's hand and set the necklace in it before closing her fingers around it. "It's yours, mi amor. Whatever you want me to do, I'm with you all the way to the end of time."
