Jada was going to have a hopefully tired wife and a tired dog when she was done throwing passes for her wife in the backyard. She laughed when she watched the football zip through her wife's fingers and bounce off the helmet face mask with a thunk.
"You weren't ready for that one huh?" Jada teased.
Callie grabbed the ball and jogged back over to her. "That one had some zip on it."
"And you've supposed to catch it. It hit you in the face, I couldn't throw it any better than that," Jada joked with her wife.
"That's the first one I dropped all afternoon," Callie replied. "Give me a little break."
Jada shook her head. "I don't think you deserve a break. I think I'm going to throw them harder now."
"Go ahead, I can catch it," Callie teased as she went to line up in her receiver position.
Luke, Derek, Jackson and a few other guys from the hospital begged Callie for weeks to join their football league. From the uniform Callie brought home one day after work, Jada could tell this league was serious. And since Luke was in charge of it, their jerseys were exact replicas of the Carolina Panthers, helmet and all.
Callie had some hops to snag a pass that Jada was sure she sailed over her head. "How's that Jaelynn?" Callie asked as she ran back to her.
"You call me Jaelynn one more time I'm going to throw this so hard at you that-"
"That what?" Callie questioned.
"Don't call me Jaelynn again and you won't find out."
Jada directed Callie down the field for another throw. She knew that Callie really wanted to play, although Callie wouldn't say that to Jada's face. From what Luke had said, the league was thinking of switching from tackle to flag football. Jada knew her wife could hold her own playing tackle football, as she had to be stronger than 75% of the men she would be playing against. But Jada didn't want someone to hurt her.
But Jada had decided she wanted to see Callie play and gave her the okay to do so. She knew her wife was a badass, and really did want her to show up a bunch of guys. Luke decided that he wanted her to play receiver, since she was fast and really strong. He knew that she'd be able to be physical when going for the ball.
Jada watched Callie follow the pass toward the makeshift sideline. She stopped dead in her tracks as he feet were just about to touch the makeshift sideline that was lined with a rope. Jada watched her catch the ball over the line while keeping both her feet in bounds.
"Look at that sweetheart!"
"That was nice Calliope."
"Hey, if you 'Calliope' me one more time I get to call you Jaelynn the rest of the night," Callie teased as she came running back with the ball.
Jada shook her head. "I get to call you by your full name whenever I want." She then asked, "are you tired yet? We've been out here for a while."
"Not really."
"You've been running routes for at least an hour."
"Yeah and look at me?" Callie teased as she flexed her arms underneath the tight long sleeve shirt she was wearing. "I don't get tired easily."
