Jada was really excited when Callie asked her to be her date to some prestigious medical convention Saturday night. She had no interest in the convention whatsoever, but she was excited to be there for Callie. Back in Los Angeles, Callie had gone to one of these before although it was not nearly as big as the one they attended together. Jada wasn't able to go to the previous one, and although she really wasn't that interested in all the medical crap, she really wanted to go to support her wife.
Callie had again received more awards, and was nominated for a few more grants against the best orthopedic surgeons in the world. Jada was a little bit jealous of what Callie got to wear to the event. Since invites to the event were sent to the best doctors across the country, the doctors were actually dressed like doctors. They all wore their white lab coats, and different colored scrubs depending on their department. Jada got to hear all day how excited Callie was that the orthopedic color was dark blue, meaning she could just wear her normal scrubs.
Jada on the other hand, dressed for comfort, but still enough to look presentable. She wore Callie's leather jacket above a white shirt underneath, tight black jeans, and black heels.
Jada knew the majority of Callie's coworkers who were invited to the event, with most of them hanging out around their assigned section the entire evening.
"Another one babe?" Jada asked as a waiter walked through the crowd with wine.
"Yes please," Callie answered, quickly pausing her conversation with some people neither of them knew.
Jada handed the glass to Callie, and held her hand on the inside of Callie's bicep before intertwining her arm with her wife's.
Callie quickly finished up the conversation and Jada was happy to follow her back to the Grey Sloan crew. Some of the doctors invited besides the main owners Meredith and Derek were Callie, Bailey, Jackson, April, Arizona, Christina, Alex, and somehow Callie's intern Kate was here as well. Jada put two and two together earlier and figured out that Kate came as Arizona's date.
"Torres, I heard you got offered another job," Christina teased. "How many is that on the night?"
"Eight," Callie answered with a small smile.
Callie was considered to be one of the best orthopedic surgeons in the world. And with that status came job offers at the convention. She politely declined every offer.
"Is that more than earlier this year?" Christina asked.
"That was 11," Callie answered.
"There's plenty of night left," Christina added. "So I think you can double that."
Callie took a sip of wine. "I shouldn't be complaining, but more people are asking about jobs than my actual skills."
"They know your skills," Jada offered. "And they know they want those skills."
"Brownie is right," Christina said. "Although you're not going anywhere."
"Wouldn't dream of it Christina."
Jada was excited when they called for the break. They kicked everyone else out except for the doctors and their dates and allowed them some time to relax and get something to eat before the event continued.
